yo yoing after 4 months on ultrametabolism

I have been utilizing ultrametabolism principles for about 4 months.  Until about 4 days ago, I had lost 22 pounds.  4 days or so ago, I started getting very hungry in the afternoon and got to where i was very hungry even after eating- the carb craving had returned- it had gone away for about 4 months. I may have started agressively trying to limit food in order to get to my final weight goal- it was seemingly much closer than ever before.

I have basically been doing ultrametabolism I for 4 months- since my food allergies seemed to get worse with getting my food clean and the emergence of spring in the midwest. thought it eliminates a lot of things- i am doing ok with it- except for food boredom is starting to come into play.  I binged on diet frozen custard last night- my first dairy in 4 months.  I really didn't want to do that.

I know i am starting to yo yo and need some advice. I still want to lose about 20 pounds by the end of 2009- next year.  I also have fibromyaliga and chronic depression- they have improved some with ultrametabolism but not markedly. I still don't feel allthat well, but the body image improvements from losing 20 pounds has helped.

Beating boredom

I was just looking back at some old entries and noticed yours. I am currently in my third week of the Ultra Simple Diet and have lost 8.5lbs. I have read the Ultra Metabolism and plan to transition onto it. I had a couple of thoughts about how to beat boredom and increase your weight loss.

Have you purchased the cookbook for the UM plan? It would probably give you a few extra options for foods and help with the cravings. Remember if you do cheat and consume something that is high in refined carbs, add protein or fat to slow it's absorbtion.

You also might want to do a Ultra Simple Diet detox week, which is more restrictive than the Ultra Metabolism detox. You may get a surge of weightloss that will help you get excieted about the plan again and help you identify some other alergens.

I also have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrom, and depression, which makes it very difficult to exercise, but I have just made myself move more. Spring cleaning a small section of my house gets me moving and the bending and lifting is helping with toning. If I feel like I am pushing myself to far I stop and just walk away. This time I don't want to crash and lose my momentum. Exercise is the key to feeling better for all of these conditions, but getting over zelous is my biggest downfall.

I hope these ideas help.

thanks for the suggestions

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and to reply to it.  Thanks also for the thoughtful and kind suggestions.  I actually woke up this morning thinking about doing a week of UltraSimple, then i read your post.  Interesting!  I have the book, so will take a look at it and seriously consider that.

I hear what you are saying about being overzealous with exercise.  It made me want to take a internet look around for a fibromyalgia exercise regimen.  the problems with most regimens is that they seem so wimpy at the start- but then when i overdo- i am down for the count for several days or weeks.  But I agree with you- exercise is key for winning over Fibromyalgia.  Your ability to make yourself stop and do tasks in increments is very noteworthy and shows me that you have the fortitude to make it through the fibro/ chronic fatigue/depression nightmare.  I was swiming some- but the pool got cold and I got lazy and didn't find a warmer pool.

I have the UM cookbook as well- but my alleriges are so prominent- and my energy level and brain fog has been so bad- it is hard to take time to modify it to my needs.

I really need a functional med doc- at least i think i do.

thanks again for the suggestions.

Try a dose of sunshine

I have just gotten out of a really low period with my condition and am really trying to do things different this time. To get started I just went outside and soaked up some natural vitamin D and got a little color to my skin, which really helps with the dark circles from my allergies and fatigue. Since I am in Florida, we have had a few extra months of nice days than you have in the Midwest, but just getting out of the house helped. I started my cleaning projects with the front porch, which took me two days, actually three if you count repotting my plants, which got me outside too.

I know it is so hard to get moving again for fear that you will just relapse, but please do it and take it slow this time. Our pool is finally to a tolerable temperature, so I'll start back on my pool routine after I finish a couple more cleaning projects. Hopfully by next week, but no pressure.

Try making a small goal with yourself to revamp one receipe a week to meet your dietary needs. This actually sounds like a fun challange for me to try too, maybe we could share revisions. I planned to purchase the cookbook anyway. Let me know.

As far as using a Functional doctor, I could use one too, but they are rather far from my home and I am concerened with the cost of testing, since I have a huge deductible on my insurance. If you are like me all of my scores on the test in the book were over seven, which ones did you choose to use the additional supplemtns for? I have not actually started on the UM yet, but will next week and could use some direction on which to choose first. I am leaning toward the Metabolic Syndrom and the Thyroid components.

Keep in touch. It has been nice talking to someone in the same boat, even if it is leaky. Wink

modifying recipes for allergies

Modifying one recipe a week is a good idea. I will start on one and then post it.  I took your suggestion and did get out and let my body make some vitamin D in the sun-it was/is a pretty day here today. i however in good fibromyalgia fashion- i got busy with my proiects and forgot to eat lunch- typicalCool

but i did stop before i got everything done i wanted to do- so that is good.

I hear what your saying about insurance- money is one reason i haven't started on any supplements except a good multivitamin, so i don't have any specific suggestions about supplements.

My main focus with ultrametabolism was to incorporate almost all organics and get rid of all frankenfoods as Dr. H calls them- well except for a couple of slips- all in all- the 4 months went good.  Going to all organics is a big change.  I am now driving 1` hour to the grocery store about once a week.  I am still doing bascially ultrametabolism I and because of my allergies- don't feel comfortable reintroducing foods- i did introduce some sprouted pasta- tried ezekeiel bread- but craved it too much- so i think bread of any kind is on my never list.

I feel like I am spendign forever in food prep- but if that is what it takes to get well- then so be it- still looking for kitchen shortcuts- and am sure those will come.

I am going to plan on starting a week of ultrasimple in a couple of 2-3 weeks- that will give me time to read on it and not do it in a rush.

Are you still on US?  When are you planning to go to UM?  What is your plan?

Food prep and storage ideas

Glad to hear you got outside today. I try to eat before I get started on a project, because yes I get busy and forget too. On the US we are suppose to have snacks or broth, so lately I try and have cut up veggies, nuts, or a piece of fruit after a couple of hours. If I don't, I start to feel weak. The other thing that has helped is to drink a big glass of ice water frequently and to prevent muscle spasm, I take a break to stretch and rest. I went overboard today, cleaning the back porch, so we went out to eat, which should save me from a crash. It is a fine line between just right and to much.

I agree that food prep is a challange. It is something I have been working on for the last year, because we were eating out to much. When I cook, I always try and prepare enough for another meal but I don't like to eat the same thing more than once a week, so I freeze then reheat later.  I also read somewhere that leftovers start to grow mold within a few hours and if your sensitive, refrigerated leftovers may not be good for you, freezing is better. My new favorite cooking techniques is to use an indoor grill pan on my electric stove, my boyfriend thinks it taste as good as using the gas grill and frozen grilled chicken taste great reheated.

Since you have to travel so far for your food, do you bring along a cooler for your cold items? The store I use even provides free ice because many of their customers travel to them. Another great item to use is the green veg bags, you may have seen them advertised on TV, they really do work and keep fruits and vegs fresh longer. My store carries them, but they would be worth ordering online.

Currently I am still on the enhanced US, except the broth and a few compromises. There are several foods I want to reintroduce before making the conversion to the UM. I am also giving my body a chance to adjust and heal before I select which of the keys of the UM to address, maybe I'll get a clearer picture of my primary problem areas. I think taking the supplements are a very important feature for success and to feel better. My Mom has used Puritan's Pride for her vitamins and herbs for years. They have awsome sales, sometimes buy one get two free, and the quality of their products is good. I think to save money, I'll use them instead of buying from the health food stores.

I am going to sign off for now, but I was wondering where in the Midwest you live, because even though I live in Florida now, I am originally from Illinois. I was also wondering since we do have so much in common and if we want to continue to communicate, do you know how it works to send a private message? I usually just use the internet for research and shopping, so I really have no idea other than there is a link on our headings.

chronic fatigue and ultrametabolism

I have an insulated cooler bag that i use for frozen and cold stuff when I do the 1 hour drive from the grocery store in Indianapolis.  I have seen the infomercial on the green veggie bags- they use some kind of earth mineral that is aluminum/silicon based- there doesn't seem to be any info out there on a quick google search about them as to whether or not the functional med people think they are safe or not. to store food in.

My wife and I have eaten out 3 times this week at cracker barrel- i had veggies and meatloaf each time- but if i want to get beetter from my chronic symptoms and make my wieght goal- i think i will need to limit or possibly exclude eating out at cracker barrel.

I have looked more at the cook book, but haven't really settled on making a grocerty list for one new recipe yet- but i will focus on just one at a time- that is a great suggestion.

I started reading a book by goldberg on chronic fatigue syndrome- for some reason i was discouraged as i read it.  It is hard for a chrsitian to embarace alternative healing methods- and in actuality they need to be real careful in doing so- but at the same time- regular medicine isn't cutting it.  that is why for the most part the majority of dr h's stuff seems palapatable to me.

I still think maybe a week or two of enhanced USD would be good- that was a good suggestion- i am reading the book and may plan on starting next weekend- using this week as my prep week.

Green bags

I did not really concider what the green bags are made of because I did find them at my health food store. They really do extend the life of fresh vegetables, which is great because organics do spoil quickly. I will do some research to learn more.

Yeah, you may need to take a break from Cracker Barrell. They are one of my favs, but even their vegs are questionable with added sugar and fats. You could have a salad with grilled chicken, but I know I couldn't resist the chicken and dumplings, so I'll just stay away. So far I have not had much success at restaurants, mostly there are just not enough healthy options.

Right now I would feel blessed to find an alternative treatment for all of my health problems. I went to the doctor because my stomach problems have escallated, for the last 4 day I have been in constant pain. Prescription drugs are so expensive and I was scared to take them after reading the side effects and I may be allergic to the pain medication. I had to warn my family what to tell the paramedics if I stopped breathing. If I honestly think acupuncture or someother treatment would work I will try it. People use to doubt Chiropractors, but they have proven that many back problems can be cured with a simple adjustment. One of the doctors in the area that has been trained my Dr H is a chiropractor, I may try her if there are no obvious reasons for my stomach pain, because adjustment can help that too.

Since I am having this problem, I may have to back off of this diet for a couple of weeks while they run test. Pasta, mashed potatoes, toast, and crackers are the only foods that calm my stomach. I'll try to maintain some of the changes to my diet in other areas, but I'll just have to play it by ear. If I just stay off the sugar maybe I won't gain back the 10lbs I have lost.

Good luck with the next phase on the USD and your overall health.

I am sorry that you have run into this problem.  There has got to be a good functional med reason for it i would think.  Have you considered posting this in the emergency room thread of the usd section of this message board? Maybe others or nutritionist might have an idea that could help you.  I hope you feel betterr soon.

Thanks for you support. The nutritionist did recommend that I get medical care. I sought the help of a specialist today and will meet him on Thursday.  I am going to keep checking in on this web site to keep the focus on whole foods. I let you know how it turns out.

I have read some of the other threads where you have posted- you always have good feedback for others and have a good sense of how ultrawellness works- i encourge you to continue your invovlment in the message board. You also are a good encourger as well to others on the board.  I hope this bump in the road turns out to be a small one for you and that you are able to continue sharing your thoughts on ultrawellness.  The whole foods approach sounds reasonable and i am glad you are going to continue it.
