Questions on USD

I am starting the Ultra Simple diet today. I've purchased everything and have made the broth. I have 3 questions:
1) I love BASIL and Oregano (fresh, not dried). They are not shown in the book as OK for Phase 1: Detox. If I use them, will it be bad for the diet?
2) The Shakes are OK, but I was wondering if the use of Stevia is OK? Stevia is all natural and maintains healthy blood sugar levels. I have not used it because it's not listed as OK. Anyone know if Steveia is OK to use?
3) I found a natural sweetner called Agave Necter. It is supposed to be low glycemic and made from the Agave plant. I had been using it before the USD and I know I can't use it now, but wonder if it is acceptable for later on in the other phases?
Thanks

What is allowed

I compared the two plans for the herbs. I could not find any reference in the USD plan, but the UMD, detox phase one, does allow for all herbs.
Stevia is listed as a food to always avoid in the UMD plan, but honey and agave are allowed in phase two.
I admit to using a small amount of dark honey in the rice protin shakes, even on the USD.

I'm pretty sure the book says not to use even Stevia. I'm also curious about the agave nectar and agave syrup, so will look forward to any replies you may get.

Doing the UltraSimple Diet
I do remember that Stevia was on the "no" list. I know about it and yes, it is a natural sugar substitute. What I understand about this USD is that we're supposed to kick the NEED for something sweet. Giving in to any sweet, albeit substitute, negates the other sacrifices that you're making to achieve the goal.
I did the USD and am now back to continue the UWD. I lost 7 pounds in a week but the best news was how good I felt on day 8. I'm slippling back into some bad habits and I remember as the USD was going on, I was accepting and tolerating the drinks and oil/juice mixtures. Never felt hunger and kicked the daily ice cream habit. I'm an ice cream junkie - literally. Went out looking for it after 10PM local. My local market didn't have my special kind so I went looking. I found it and went to the register. It was 4 times as expensive as it was normally. I hadn't brought nearly enough money and declined to buy it. I left the store feeling - knowing that I looked like a drug junkie. Same craving, same elation having found it and I had my reality check. I hope you can quit sugar - of all types. It really is addictive and natural sugar from fruit is wonderful!
Cheers,
Stevia

I've been doing well. I passed up donuts and cake at work. I have not wanted anything sweet, but today sitting in the sun I wanted something more than water. I am handling all the food and have no problem with the olive oil & lemon, but today I want something more than water to drink. I put lemon juice in it but it's not the same. I put a little agave in the water and lemon, but it's still too tart and not satisfying. Of course, Saturday is my martini night and I know there will be no martini for me tonight.
I didn't measure myslef, but I did weigh myself when I started. I started at 166 and I weighed in at 157 today. I was able to zip my jeans up without laying on the bed. I can see my budda belly is flatter too. I feel great, the *ahem* plumbing is working better than ever, and I am dedicated to doing another week of USD.
But I have sabatoge coming up. I am taking a trip with my mother, my Italian mother, and we are going to New Jersey to see Italian relatives. The pasta will be abundant as will the sweets and wine. I was thinking of duct tape, yeah -- that might work. Just tape my mouth shut and talk with my hands. LOL!
Try Brown Rice Pasta

I just tried the brown rice pasta, which was in my cupboard for a week because I was scared it would be as bad as whole wheat pasta. It was so good, but I should warn you, it was hard to not eat the whole bowl. The protein was the same but the fiber was 1 gram less per serving. However, it might help you with the Italian food situation.
For a sweet treat try the Bird's Nest treats reciepe and have those when you want something sweet. They are so good everyone will like them. I think the almond milk is better, because it is a little sweeter. You might also like cinnamon in them it actually brings out the sweetness.
I don't usually drink, but if you have one glass with meals you won't do much damage to your diet. The only thing to really concern yourself with is what you might splurge on if you get a little tipsy.
Pack your own snacks and drink your shakes to keep full so you won't be as tempted. Just a word of caution to concider is the negative effects you may feel if you splurge to much.
Good luck!
I bought the brown rice

I bought the brown rice pasta and will try it this week.
I am at plateau. I've been at 157 for the last week. I think I need to reduce the rice to once per day. I am a carboholic and I know my body loves and stores carbs. I am eating the protien first at night, but at lunch it's just the veges and rice. I think I will cut out the rice at lunch and eat a small amount of protien or will add protien to the rice.
I am now starting week 3 and hope to drop more weight. I can say I am zippering pants I've not been able to and I have room in them. When I did the Adkins diet, it was 2 months before the scale registered what my clothes were telling me.
I bought a bottle of organic wine free of sulfites and enjoyed a glass with dinner on Friday night. Saturday we went to our favorite restaurant and I had grilled mahi mahi with vegetables. I also enjoyed 2 glasses of wine on Saturday, but yesterday decided that was enough and did not have any.

Can maple syrup be ok in the diet?
I don't use suger but do use maple syrup and agave nector when making dressing or some sweets. I know it is better to eliminate all the sweetener but sometimes you need the sweetness to enhance the flavour of meals...

I know what you mean about just having to have a treat and somethings just taste better with a little sweetner. Dr Hyman does only recommend honey and the agave nectar in Phase II of the UM, but .....
Let's get real! As of today, I quit smoking 7 months ago, yipee! I didn't fall into the eating all the time pattern, but I did crave sweets after meals and in the late evening. This diet has helped me control most of those cravings. I feel that I want to find a balance in how I eat and allow for a small treat, so I won't feel deprived.
I do use pure maple syrup in my brown rice cereal, but only a teaspoon drizzled on top and a small amount of honey or agave nectar to my shakes. My favorite treats are a fruit smoothy with a little agave nectar and chocolate dipped strawberries made with 85% dark chocolate, almond milk, and agave nectar.
I think the most important things to keep in mind is to not get sucked into using sweetner all the time or using it in portions we used in the past and omit it whenever you can. Fruit has it's own sweetness and usually is all I need to feel satisfied. I love to eat apples with almond butter.
Life is sweet too.

You are right in saying that we have to find a balance in our diet. Sometimes when you start something new like a new diet method, you get so stucked in what's right or wrong that you don't see the whole picture anymore. In doing the Ultrametabolism diet, I would like to learn how to eat healthy and drop off the things I don't want in my body. So, it is not about to find out whether agave nector is better than mayple syrup but about how to prepare, enjoy and know meal that doesn't necessary require the familier sweetener or lots of salt.
Having said that, I still have lots of questions similar to the one I asked though. I hope I get to learn more on this site.
Thanks for your comment!
And good for you that you quit smoking for 7 months!
