Let's try this again

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

I'm basically a potential mess right now.   Borderline hypertension,
borderline sugar, about 100 pounds overweight.  I'm an over stressed,
over anxious emotional eater who is at the point of desperation.  I
need to detox and reduce, or plan a future of major health issues.

I wouldn't say that this is "ultrasimple" as it requires a lot of cooking and
preparation.  I'm sure that ordering four weeks of food would really
help; but cost of it is almost as much as my entire monthly food budget for my
family of six.  There is just no way I can afford it.

This is my
second try at the ultrasimple diet.  I fully believe in what Dr. Hyman's teaches and have read much of his work.   I just need the willpower
to keep good habits going....  We travel a lot for my kids
sports and the outside world is not very friendly to healthy eating.
Not to mention it's really hard to want to order steamed vegetables and
rice with everyone else at the table is gorging on gourmet goodies. But,
if I don't succeed, I truly feel that I will die way too early.

Wish me luck....

-Jeff

Hi Jeff, I'm sorry to

Hi Jeff,

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling at the moment, but it's really great that you are back to the program and are trying to improve your health and well-being.

I haven't read the UltraSimple Diet - I've read and am following the UltraMetabolism Diet - but I'm sure they are similar.  It's true, some of these recipes take time (certainly more time than it takes to go through the drive-thru), but I try to remind myself that I'm worth it, that our grandparents cooked like this all the time (so it IS possible), and now that I'm on day 8 without "cheating", I feel waaaaay better, less bloated, and more in control of my life.  "Fast" food never made me feel that way.

We went to a BBQ on the weekend, and my friends were drinking wine and beer - I had water with lemon - and you know?  It really wasn't that bad.  They had cheeseburgers (they looked really good) - I had chicken shish-kabob with red onion and red pepper and some brown rice (I brought these myself, and the hosts had no problem with it) - and people were looking at my plate with all the vibrant colours and saying "that looks really good".  Best of all, I felt clean and healthy that night (while they were burping up beer and burgers), and felt great the next day too.  Feeling great feels great!

A bag of baby carrots, a small bag of nuts, apples, pears - these are things that I throw in my bag or car when I know that I'm going somewhere not conducive to preparing my own meal.  I'm also taking the PGX supplement, and I find that an apple, some nuts and a bottle of water actually makes me feel full now (and believe me, I never in a million years thought I would say that).

I found that taking it one day at a time helps.  I try not to think "I have 2 more weeks of the detox-phase", but rather "I'll just try my best to stick to the program today" - that seems to make it way easier for me, and it does seem to be working.

Lastly, you're not alone.

Best of luck,

Jones

I'm finding that after the first big surge of costs, it's less expensive on subsequent weeks. Last week, I ate out and found cod, brown rice and veggies. It worked while the other person had a delicious looking meal. I brought my food to a get together. Everyone had wonderful looking food. I had my brown rice and two cups of stir fried veggies. I ended up even being able to have some berries while they had cobbler. Later someone said, boy, your lunch sure did look good. ANd it was!
