Currently beginning UltraMetabolism
Not yet begun the UltraSimple Diet
I'm still reading Ultrametabolism, I only wish I would have found this book and Dr. Mark Hyman long ago. I'm in terrible shape but that hasn't always been the case. I was very fit and healthy until I went through the divorce from hell, where during two years of court battles, I rarely could choke anything down because I was so upset. Each night after court I would have enough alcohol to drink so I passed out and smoked like a chimney. When I gave up my rights to all things financial just to get it over with and moved with my three children to a small town where I ran the local newspaper where I had two deadlines a week and a diabetic Mom and alcoholic Dad to look after in addition to being a single parent, two businesses and two homes. I remarried fifteen years after my divorce and he died after only two years of wedded no-bliss (he was a drunk and a junkie). I'm now in a relationship with a diabetic who doesn't take care of himself and his blood sugar lows strike terror in my heart because I'm afraid I won't be able to bring him around. I'm lonely because we live in the country and I know no one. I think my problem is stress.

A tough situation

It sounds like you have a huge amount of stress to deal with. Ultrametabolism is a great place to start. Dr. Hyman talks about stress as one of the 7 keys and gives some good ideas on how to reduce stress and the body's stress responses. You may find that you need to go farther than that to deal with everything you have going on.
Best of luck with your healing journey. Please let us know how you're doing.

Doing the UltraSimple Diet
You have alot to deal with. I'd take it a day at a time and do not feel guilty if you end up eating something not on the program. Just keep plugging away. If you want faster results, you might try the UltraSimple Diet which is only one week. I decided to do this after reading UltraMetabolism as 8 weeks was too long for me. I also am not in the best relationship and have a lot of stress. But everyday and night I say to myself, "I love you." Just to remind myself to take care of myself. If I'm not in good shape, how can I take care of the people I love? Anyway, I'm on the UltraSimple Diet and it's my third day. I already noticed immedidate results. I feel calmer and more positive. I'll not kid you, the first two days were shakey and I often felt tired, but fortunately I started on a Sunday as Dr. Hyman recommended so I could plan for the busy week ahead. All I can say is hang in there and if you need someone to talk to, I'm here. I think you are very brave to take this first step. Rooting for ya gal!!
