Hi Group,

I started reading the book a couple of weeks ago and started eating whole foods right away.  I am currently overweight and up until about 8 years ago, had always been thin but I also have a low thyroid and take Synthroid for it.

The weight has been creeping up on me and because I am not as active as I used to be, I cannot lose it.  But when I started eating the whole foods I could tell there were positive changes happening to me.  I started feeling better and had more energy.

I think I am stuck in a rut right now.  That is why I wanted to join the group to get some tips and help.  It would be nice to know what each of you are eating for your 3 or 4 meals a day to give me some ideas.  I tend to get stuck on one thing and then it gets boring and I am afraid to try something new.  I did try Quinoa and it wasn't bad.  LOL!

Thanks for all your help,

Try using new cooking techniques of your favorite foods, as long as they are whole foods not "Frankenfoods". Roasted vegetables are great and taste very different than boiled or microwaved. Drizzle with olive oil and S&P then roast in the oven at 425 for about 10-20 minutes. They should still have a little crunch, but use your best judgement. Try adding herbs and spices to vary the taste.

Personally, I searched for my vegetable steamer, (that I had never used) and have started steaming my vegetables too. I now love steamed sweet potatoes and I can vary their taste by adding seasonings to the water. One thing I also do that works well for me is to buy frozen organic vegetables, which help me not spend too much time cooking. In my opinion, unless you can buy fresh vegetables every couple of days frozen is better, since the nutrients are at their peak when picked. My family never liked frozen green beans until I started steaming them. My steamer may get a cousin, I plan to get a bamboo steamer, so I can do multiple items at the same time.

Seeds and nuts will help you control your hunger. I always try to have a little protein with my snacks. Nut butter is great with celery or apples and they both have fiber too. The best thing I have done for myself is to plan ahead for my cravings.

Grains are the hardest for me. Of course the brown rice is good jazzed up and quinoa too. I bought the millet, but have not actually cooked it yet. Searched online for some recipes, but there were very few. I love oatmeal and have continued to eat it for breakfast although it is actually not a phase I food. Does anyone else have any great grain ideas?
