Hi, This is day 7 for me and I have lost 7 lbs and enjoy feeling the sharpness of my shin bones due to shedding water. What motivated me to this diet was the fact that I have mild Crohn's disease and have become discouraged with the newer agressive therapies that seem more injurious than helpful to me although I still plan on following conventional treatments. I am tired of feeling tired and being "fluffy". I am surprized at my own motivation in following through with this, but so far am hooked and hope to be able to maintain it.

Way to go Nur!

Way to go Nur!  Congratulations!

That's really amazing!  We must have started around the same time -- today is my 8th day, and while I haven't weighed myself yet, I am certainly feeling less bloated and more "clean".  I've struggled a bit seeing my friends enjoying wine, coffee and cheese-laden things, but I try to remind myself that feeling healthy feels better than the temporary "joy" those things might bring (although, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to a glass of wine in a couple of weeks!).

I would love to stay in touch to share successes (you may just help to keep me motivated!), especially seeing as we're at the same point in the program.

To your health,

Jones

I have found that in this past week, weighing myself was a great motivator in that I knew that the weight in water would come off and the scale was proof of that. Of course sensing my waist was a bit trimmer too helped. Now that most of the excess fluid is off however I will have to depend on the sacale less as I am sure the lbs will come off much more slowing.

I have recently started a new job which is in a cubicle on the phone, so have great interactions with people I am talking too but isn't in the form of socialization, so I'm not exposed to chees and wine eating friends - smile!

Over the years I've tried "healthy " foods before so don't find the "earthy" tastes to be a barrier. Like I had kasha for breakfast , I have to say that I have nothing against rice, but a week of it got old fast. I also cooked up some quinoa with turmeric but forgot to add salt so it tastes bhah - will need to concoct somethng to doctor it up.

I am lucky to have the change in my life now that allows me to cook more than I cook in the past. This too I know I will get bored with so I think the opprtunity of adding another food each week will be my motivator for awhile until I need to find another.

Well so far so good - how are you coming along?

I apologize for typos -o's > it seems something is preventing me from making corrections in this format.

Hi Nur-i-Leila,  Well,

Hi Nur-i-Leila,

Well, I'm on day 10 of the detox and just checked the scale for the first time - 6 pounds!  Plus, I feel way less bloated (and thus feel better) and my cheekbones are more prominent now.  This is all pleasing!

And a confession: yesterday my office mates had cake - I declined, although once they had finished it, I did dip my finger in some leftover icing, and do you know what?  It tasted awful!  Fake, way too sweet - yuck!  I went back to my office and had some strawberries and I can honestly say that I preferred that MUCH more!  It's amazing how quickly things change!

I didn't used to cook much either,  but am enjoying it now.  I'm sure once life gets more hectic it will be more difficult, but I'm trying to come up with quick meal ideas -- grilled chicken breast on a bed of greens (I have a george foreman grill that's fast), the bean burrito in the UM book, leftover meals that I put in the freezer.  All I know is that I WANT to keep at this - I can't say I've ever said that about other weight loss methods I've tried before.

Thanks for the update and good luck out there!

I want to be healthy and energized.

I have just started and you have given my hope that I can be strong when others are eating cheese.  Thank you.

Hi momof5 - welcome!

How far along in the program are you?  Personally, I can't believe that after just 10 or 11 days on program that I'm not craving the crap that I used to eat.  Last weekend, I was at a BBQ and people were eating cheeseburgers and drinking beer.  At first, I felt deprived, but then I looked at my chicken shish kabobs with red pepper and onion (that I brought myself), and I loved the colours and thought "this looks great!" and other people said as much and wanted my leftovers!  And the best part, is that afterwards, I FELT great - while everyone else was burping up beer and burgers and feeling bloated.

I think the trick is to be prepared -- I've GOT to bring my own stuff with me (or make sure that there is something appropriate there), or I will feel deprived.  It's the feeling of deprivation that makes me weak.  But, I've found it easy to pack some carrots and olive tampenade (recipe is in the book and its good), or an apple and nuts, and I really do feel better for eating those.  I try to think about how awful I feel after eating junk - physically and mentally - and that seems to give me strength.

We're going to a cottage this weekend and I plan to bring my own chicken breasts and salad fixings (I'm happy to share of course, but I imagine the others will be having burgers and steaks), as well as some fruits & nuts.  Preparation is key!

And don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't have tough moments!  I just try to remind myself of how I want to feel.  And failing that, I ask my fiance to remind me.  You're not alone!  :)
