4 days into it -- back into the real world!

My husband and I had rented an old house in a Washington State Park and we used the Phase I menu and shopping list to buy 4 days worth of meals.  We took them to the house along with our bikes and kite.

This was like a spa!  We spent our days walking on the beach and biking in between preparing our delicious meals.  Since we didn't bring anything that was not on the list, there were no temptations.

We just got back home and now the real challenge starts: how to fit the food preparation into our busy schedules and how to stay away from temptations.

So far, I've loved the food.  So healthy and filling!  As a twist, we bought all the beans as dry beans, not in cans, soaked a cup or two the day before and prepared them in the pressure cooker that we brought along.  Much cheaper, a lot less waste and no exposure from the toxicity of the cans.

Sounds Great

Your trip sounded awesome. I wish we could do something like that. No temptations, wow. Anyway since your going back into the real world with temptations here's some tips. Have nuts, green tea, or your afternoon/ morning snack while everyone else is eating something "illegal" as my husband likes to call it. Also 1 or 2 high quality/ organic chocolate squares really does the trick.

What a great idea! Most people may not realize that each state has a park system that has cabins and other types of lodging even tents and tepees. The prices vary but small cabins usually range from $80 to $120 for one night and I just was quoted $45 for a tepee in the Arkansas Ozarks. Most units include everything you need except your personal items and food, some even include spa tubs. Just be sure that they have what you need some are rustic and don't even have A/C. This might be something to concider for a vacation this summer, you maybe surprised what is in your own "backyard". They usually book early so plan ahead, especially for holidays.

I know that many of us have a hard time getting in exercise that we enjoy, but a state park has a variety of options for canoeing, hiking, swimming, and biking, and it is a great way to relieve stress if you just listen to the sound of nature. This is my favorite hobby between nature and history I never get bored with state parks.

As for eating in the real world, create your own "100 calorie packs" with a combination of seed and nuts and always have cut vegs and fruit in the fridge. My favorite illegal snack is Terra's exotic chips, which I have said before, but they have saved me from feeling deprived. Just remember to take a small portion and leave the bag in the kitchen. I also love to melt the dark chocolate with a little soy or almond milk then I mix in a combination of seed and nuts or dip in berries or frozen banannas.

The key to success in this program is to take it back to nature in how we eat and live.
