I began my second preparation week on Monday, after getting sidelined with stomach problems then gallbladder surgery, I finally feel ready to begin again. During this time I chose to stay connected to this message board and helping other if I could. Sometimes I felt a little silly, but I am more prepared going in this time, I have been taking vitamins and supplements for the last two weeks and drinking organic grape juice daily, since I don't drink wine.
Within two weeks of my surgery on July 3, I was in the pool doing light exercises, which I hadn't really been doing before. I try to swim everyday for at least 10-20 minutes. Since I have fibromyalgia I can not go too crazy but every little bit helps. My arms and legs are more tone and now that my stomach is healed I am focusing on doing moves that will help tone it.
It has been almost 10 months since I quit smoking, which is great I am much healthier in noticable ways and my lungs are busy healing themselves. Unfortunatly my diet has returned to it's previous carb laden ways. Over the last month and half I gained all of the 13lbs back that I lost on the plan. Pastries, cookies and all forms of chocolate have taken over as my addiction to a manic level.
For this week I am implementing the preparation week of the USD, but until I see the gastronologist on Friday, I am not sure if I will do it or the UM. After an exhaustive search, I found a doctor who is actually a DO and has not fallen into the MD trap. I actually saw a gastronologist who knew nothing about digestive ensymes, sad. Since there still are issues regarding my liver, stomach, and possibly pancrease I am concerened with having too rapid of a weight loss and stressing them too much,
I am writing this entry for anyone who has struggled to stay on this program for whatever reason and for those who are not sure if they can do it. Each day is a new day and we have a responsibility to ourselves and our families to make changes that will improve our health. Just make one small change, then another, an another because any other choice is not an option, if you want a long healthy life.

Thanks

Doing the UltraSimple Diet
It's great to get some encouragement from someone who has been working with this for a while. You've had some big challenges but you've still been able to make really important changes - especially stopping smoking.
One encouraging thing about smoking cessation and weight loss - the research shows that smokers who gain some weight when they stop smoking are more likely to not start smoking again than smokers who don't gain any weight. Also most of them lose the weight fairly easily. I hope both of those things are true for you.
Good luck with the challenges you're still facing!
Frances
Great encouragement

That is great encouragement about the weight gain and it's relationship to quiting smoking. You made my day with that one. I hope it is true for me too.
Good luck on your path to better health.
Thanks for posting that tidbit!

I quit smoking 2 years ago this last Aug. 2nd(for the 7th or 10th and final time) with the deal that I could put anything in my mouth EXCEPT a cigarette. I have gained a total of 25 pounds since, but no ciggies (hooray!)! Now is time to address the weight and my relationship with food.
It is hopeful and validating to know that it was a good deal! My weight gain which was expected can now be a legitimate side effect of my sucess--not just a sign of lack of discipline or will power.
...one day at a time; one choice at a time...
This is the final time

To quit smoking was the hardest part and this is my final time. Thinking of cigarettes still happens for me everyday, but then I'll get a face full of someone else's smoke and be so thankfull I quit.
This eating plan may seem daunting and contrary to some of the lose weight fast programs, but this is the easy part. Right now I am at a level off point but I have lost 14 of my 30 pounds that I gained, and wilth this diet plan I now eat better that I ever have in the past. I can't say that I never eat the foods to avoid, however my meals include whole food that are cooked properly and I now can enjoy a fresh salad, since my surgery.
Many people would not even start a diet right before the holidays, but I think it makes sense. So often people feel sick and depressed during the holidays and often the excess and types of foods we eat cause these problems. You did not say which you plan to follow, but the Ultra Metabolism has many choices that will allow you to enjoy many of your favorites just tweek them and make them healthier. Good luck to you. I like your spin on my motto too.
One day at a time to a healthier life.
