My husband suffers from severe muscle cramps in his legs and his doctors don't seem to be able to help him.  The cramps occur usually at night and are in his thighs or back of leg -- sometimes groin.  He is an electrical contractor with a moderate amount of stress, and is on his feet most of the day as well up and down the ladder many times a day.  He has had a cat scan which showed a small mass on his adrenal gland which the doctor decided to just watch.  He takes Benicar/HCT20/12.5MG each day and stopped taking Lipitor months ago.  He also takes a Centrum Silver multivitamin, fish oil, Glucosamine/Condrotion, and a Potassium Magnesium Aspartate 250 supplement at night.  Most nights he also has a drink with tonic water and small amt. of juice.  He drinks a large cup of tea, coffee, or milk in the morning with peanut butter toast, has a  large amount of diet soda at lunch, and usually iced tea with a well balanced dinner.  However, he is not much of a fruit eater --- maybe 4 pieces a week.  Do you have any suggestions for him?

Let me first say, I am not a medical professional.  However, my husband was also experiencing these symptoms.  He was not taking a calcium supplement--when we added that to his diet (especially with the evening meal), he has had significantly less cramping.

Looks like your husband is already getting potassium and magnesium, and quinine.  (You might want to experiment with a concentrated form of quinine that you can get in pill form at a good health food store or Whole Foods.)

I'd also suspect that the diet soda should be dropped.

You probably want to talk with your doctor about all of these ideas to ensure that don't interfere with the other drugs/supplements that he is currently taking.

Good luck!
