Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Yesterday was my 7th day on the UltraDiet and as of this morning I lost 2 pounds, 1/2 inch on my waist and 1 inch off my hips.  I'm very pleased with those results since losing is hard for me.  I didn't have much detox to go through since I've been gluten-free since January and I eat a diet of healthy natural foods normally.  My main diet downfalls are coffee, cheese, and wine. Smile

I'm feeling good and still can't believe how well I felt on the diet...I think this is the first diet I've had success with where I never felt hungry or deprived. I still want to lose another 7 - 12 pounds so I'll be starting the plan again in a couple days.  I still had an Ultrashake for breakfast, and made a thermos of leftover broth, and lunch looks pretty much like another day on the diet..I may splurge and have Caesar dressing on my salad today.

Thanks Again Dr Hyman for your knowledge & dedication!  Smile

That is so great! You should be so proud of yourself. Honestly, that is really commendable you have been gluten-free since January - that is wonderful :)

I would personally love to hear your continued progress on your second try at this. I am just on day2, and so far I am enjoying the whole process. I took up yoga about a month ago, and I was pleased to see that it is incorporated into the USD plan :). By the end of the day I feel very mellow and serene - hence the name ;)

Have a wonderful day!

I'm Starting another week today!

I had one week off, but still maintained most of the basic eating plan, and I lost one more pound.  So I'm back on the full diet again this week!

I'm finishing up my first week tomorrow.  I plan to continue, too, but I don't think I am going to do the olive oil in the morning because I think I need to cut down on the fat in order to lose more quickly.

I have a lot of energy, that's for sure!  I've been up since 4 AM (my husband had to get up to leave for his business trip).  I've cooked, washed five loads of laundry, took the dogs for a walk and then gardened until 3:45 PM.  I'm ready to sit for a while!  I am going to use my 'rest time' to listen to my hypnosis CD.

I'm so glad we're all back on the website!  I love knowing I am not alone.

I have sooo much to do, I'd need to have 24-hours of energy a day to even get close to catching up.  lol

BTW, I love your quote.  For some of us, it's easier to find the time to do something if we think we're doing it for someone else (I USED to have that problem, but I've outgrown it.  haha), so if we think we're doing this plan for the whole cosmos - well, I would hate to let down the whole cosmos!  Wink

I'm on day 6 of the UltraSimple Diet and feel great.  I've lost 5 lbs so far.  I was planning to do another week of this diet then look into moving on to the UltraMetabolism plan.  Has anyone read the UltraMetabolism book?  Is the plan any different than the UltraSimple?  I have 70 lbs to lose and would like to know your thoughts on which way to go. Stay on this plan or do the other.

Thanks.

I love the active discussions!

Hi Chloe,

I've been on Ultrametabolism for a few months and it's wonderful and easy to live with. It's more liberal than Ultrasimple, he has you do a few weeks of food elimination and then basically sticking to whole foods. I definitely suggest reading the book. I've read it 3 times and learn new things every time.

Good luck

Thanks!

Thank you for the info.  I just bought the book yesterday and plan to spend the weekend reading it.  I'm thrilled to hear that the UM is not as strict as the USD.

USD verses Ultrametabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Hi Chloe,

I also have 60-65 lbs to lose.  I knew I needed more than one week to detoxify my body so I wanted to stay on the USD as long as 12 weeks, hence the name summertime.  I figured I'd do this for the whole summer.  I also know that the strict USD would be too restrictive for me for a long period.  I pulled out my copy of Ultrametabolism and read the part about the UM chanllenge.  It is 8 weeks total; 1 week detox, 3 weeks for Phase I where you have more variety of food choices than USD (grains like amaranth, fruits like apples, and protein like shrimp) and 4 weeks for Phase II where you add back foods to test your reactions.  If you liked the USD, you'll like UM too.  You can get it all from the book.

I'm combining whatever maximum USD principles I can maintain with gusto, with the addition of some of the foods from Phase I of Ultrametabolism for the remainder of the summer.  Then I will move on to Phase II.  By then I will have lost weight and adopted the new lifestyle.

I also love the discussions.  I couldn't imagine a better way to feed my motivation than to hear everyone sharing.

USD vs Ultrametabolism

Are you really planning to stay on the USD for 12 wks?  Yikes I think I would lose my mind.  I can't wait to add some other foods into the mix.  I'm going to start the Ultra Metabilism as soon as I finish the book.  Good luck with your 60-65 lbs.  Keep me updated and I'll do the same.

You are right

Ha Ha!  Losing your mind?  Yes, 12 weeks on USD is like joining a monestary.  Socially, I am already avoiding some situations where food is involved.  It's just that the results are soooo good from just one week, and I was feeling so rotten with the extra weight.  From the clarity I feel now, I can't imagine eating another donut at work for the rest of my life.  Not even tempted.  I'm giving up some of my mind for more soul and less body mass.

Good luck on your continued success and keep me posted also.

Strange how it works...

I didn't stay on the USD for 12 weeks, because I was mostly concerned with the toxicity score and finding allergies. But I stayed on the almost-as-strict version for two more weeks, and it was hard.

Now I'm adding back foods, and it surprises me how reluctant I am to do it, even with foods I miss. I'm afraid this will be the food that brings it all crashing down around me! And, after a time, I can totally imagine myself not eating doughnuts, which I used to adore!

I stepped out of line on the sugar thing twice -- once with soy ice cream and once with rice ice cream. (My daughters are both allergic to dairy, so this is what we have anyway.) I liked those kinds of ice cream before, but now, not so much. I had the soy ice cream with fresh berries, and I liked that, because it added a creaminess to the dominant berry taste, but the rice ice cream by itself -- blah.

So I'm like you -- I can totally imagine being off sweets, forever. I have an e-pal in New Zealand who says that whenever he and his wife get an "American" recipe, they start by halving the amount of sugar. Maybe I'll be like that, and like sweets on occasion, but not super-sweets. They've done it, and they're in their late 80s, I think, and in great health. They also eat lots of fresh veggies from their organic garden, probably not coincidentally...

I used to have a huge sweet tooth. And now I pass the donut and cookie and candy aisle in the store like it just doesn't apply to me. I have an ounce of my 70 percent chocolate now, and where it used to taste bitter, I now find it sweet. Strange how that works -- but I'm glad it does!

A sweet taste treat that doesn't disappoint

FYI -- Whole Foods Market is carrying a brand new frozen dessert product in some of their stores.  It is called "Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss".  It comes in a wide variety of flavors, all organic ingredients.  The product is basically frozen organic coconut milk, sweetened ONLY with agave syrup (which is very sweet-tasting, but very low glycemic load).  That's it, apart from whatever it takes to achieve the flavor variety (i.e., add organic cherries and almonds = Cherry Amaretto OR add organic cocoa nibs = Naked with Nibs OR add organic pistachio and cardamom = well, you get it, right?)

This is a vegan and diabetic friendly product that is absolutely De-LISH--able.  Check them out.  Since it carries no refined sugars, I think it's okay to add a couple of bites occasionally and certainly fits the plan after the detox phase.

USD and Ultrametabolism

I did the Ultrasimple detox for a week, losing 8 pounds and feeling great! I also have 70+ to lose, so I had been slowly weaning myself away from high fructose, sugars, caffeine (which was a KILLER!) before detox. To date, I am down about 19 pounds in about 4 weeks (2 weeks pre-Ultrasimple, Ultrasimple for 1 week and Phase one this week. I am also now walking twice a day, in my quest to put in 10000 steps a day. My wonderful husband is my coach, partner and walking buddy; he with his IPOD listening to his country music, while I brush up on my Italian on my ZEN.

I am now in Phase 1 of Ultrametabolism, and glad I did it. The recipes are terrific and portable to the office, and, even in phase one, you don't feel deprived. As a matter of fact, I still make the Ultrabroth and have it in lieu of my beloved coffee time with my associates. I've also discovered that 1) I really like Amaranth, and 2) I STILL HATE GROATS!

Congratulations on your success! I think the beauty of the USD is that it prepares you very quickly for the next phase and helps you adapt to a new lifestyle and healthier habits. Ultrametabolism was pretty seamless and effortless so far. Just stay focused and open minded... even with groats!

Continued success and happiness~
