Doing the UltraSimple Diet
I am 51 years old and need to lose the weight of half of me. I have been feeling so stiff and poorly, even cleaning house was difficult. I could no longer ride my horse and enjoy the outdoors like I used to. I got this way over many years and have tried many times to lose weight on many diet plans to no avail. I always gained it back with reinforcements.
After much prayer and research, I started the Ultra-Simple Diet on May 13th(Mothers Day) and have stayed fairly close on program for the entire week. My slips included not taking the Ultra-baths several nights due to lack of time (and I really missed them as this was one of my favorite parts). I also missed a meal due to work and ate my "emergency" package of walnuts instead. I did my final weigh-in this morning and lost 10 pounds and 2.6 inches on my waist and hips. My clothes fit better and I feel unbelievably better! I now feel like walking! I still miss having meat twice a day, but I really love the Version 1 Ultra-Shakes. I can do this! I used some of the recipes in the guide book and Ultra-Metabolism's Book and my husband now thinks I am a gourmet cook! The recipes really help!
All I can say is WOW! And Thank You Dr. Hyman for making this information available to the public. I plan to stay on the Ultra-Simple Plan for at least 2 more weeks. I have my annual physical on May 31st. My doctor even wanted me to have gastric bypass surgery because I had gotten so overweight with so many health problems and could not get the weight off. I just did not see that as the way to go for me. I cannot wait for her to see the difference in me! Thanks Dr. Hyman for giving me HOPE! And thanks to my sweet husband, Jim, for giving me the support I needed at home to do this!

I am 56 years old and since menopause have become 25 pounds overweight. I cannot believe the new places where I have fat!! I feel crappy, somewhat due to chronic Lyme disease, but I'd be kidding my self if I blamed it all on that. I drink coffee with sugar and drink red wine every day ... How the heck do I get started on this program? How can I get motivated to stop having the food and drink that I enjoy so much? You seem to have figured it out ... Help!! Patti

Hey Friend,
I loved coffee and diet Pepsi too. I also have had many health problems over the past several years too, including back surgery and subsequent staff infection where I almost died; I am pre-diabetic and have to wear orthotics to walk.
When I was evaluating this program, I really wondered if I could do this it too. No sugar, no red meat, they had to be kidding! But, I was so miserable I had to do something. I am missing out on so many of the things I used to love to do. I figured I could do anything for one day or even for one week. I also sought the help of my Lord Jesus in prayer, who ultimately get the credit for my success! Never hurts to have our Creator supporting you! And I just put my trust in Dr. Hyman that what he said would come true, if I stayed on program, I would feel better. And it is true, you will feel better!
I followed Dr. Hyman's suggestion on the following the pre-week guide before actually getting started on the program. I bought groceries and supplements ahead of time so that I had everything I needed to start on day 1 and to last me through the week. I got my husband and two friends on board for a support staff. I resolved to do exactly what Dr. Hyman suggested for at least this week. My husband agreed to eat suppers only with me. That really helped. I was in a real dilemma on what to have for our meals until I really looked at the recipes in the guidebook and in the Ultra-Metabolism book.
I used Version 1 of the Ultra-Shake. One of my friends gave me a really neat Blending System called the "Cyclone" for a Mother's Day present (even though I do not have children, my critters are my children). It is really handy to make the shakes instead of getting out the blender. Much easier to clean too! She got it at a "Fred's Store". I don't know if you have a Fred's, I live in Alabama. I used fresh fruit and measured it into 1/2 cup servings using Ziploc containers and froze them. I take them out of the freezer and let them thaw slightly (5 minutes) before adding them to the Cyclone with the other ingredients. Half strawberries and half bananas are my favorite fruit ingredient, although adding blueberries to the strawberries and bananas is good too! I also use "almond butter" in my shakes, which makes them really delicious! I only used the shakes in the mornings at first. But later in the week I had one at lunch one day and at night with supper one night when I was feeling deprived. They are just like ice cream to me! I love them!
Other recipes I used for the evening meals included: "Wild Salmon with Rosemary Sweet Potatoes and Lemon Asparagus" (my husband really liked this one); "Tuscan White Bean Stew", and "Asparagus with Roasted Garlic Olive Oil and Red Onions" - I serve this one with skinless, boneless chicken breast that I put sea salt, ground black pepper, rosemary, parsley, and California garlic onion powder on both sides and pan saute in an iron skillet with just a little olive oil.
I plan to try some new recipes this next week. The cooking takes time, but if you plan ahead you can shorten the time required.
Time is a precious commodity for me. I drive 66 miles one way to work (1 1/2 hours each way) and I keep my invalid Dad 4 nights a week and weekends. We have a working farm too, so I have to help my husband some, like yesterday when we baled hay (square bales). He does all the cutting, raking and baling and I drive the truck while he loads the bales. Yesterday I actually felt like I could lift some bales too! We also went for a walk this morning for about 30 minutes; I could not do that comfortably before last week. Wow, it is wonderful feeling this good! It is worth the sacrifice of not eating what I was used to!
I will admit one night we had to go through the drive through Burger Joint to get my husband and Dad a burger and milkshake for supper on our way to check on one of our horses at the breeder's farm. I did not get anything to eat, but ate my walnuts and water until I could get home and have my real supper. I actually cried it smelled so good! I felt deprived, but had an extra ultra-shake with my supper. I hung in there and it was worth it! Will it always be easy? No, but through prayer and encouragement from others it is doable.
You can do this too! I will remember you in my prayers!

Hi Patti,
I'm starting a week late - today is my first day. I finally made the decision to go ahead after reading the book and determining that, for me, it wasn't about dieting. It's about feeling good and being healthy. I want to see if this experiment really makes a difference. I spread out the preparation and shopping over several days so it wouldn't be overwhelming. I also followed Dr. Hyman's advice and weened my self off of caffeine and sugar (I'm a diet pepsi person) the week before (last week). I tried to be as organized about it as possible.
I love sweets, black tea, and diet pepsi. It was a little difficult at first but the cravings do go away. I also have made sure that temptation has been removed from my vicinity (as much as possible).
You can do it - think about it and take your time preparing so you set your self up for success.

Melanie,
Congratulations on your first day! Hang in there, I was not hungry, but really tired my first two days! They ultra-bath was a wonderful end to the day!
You sound a lot like me on the things I loved to eat, especially sweets and Diet Pepsi! I only drink water, green tea and the ultra-shakes now. One day I was so thirsty I drank 16 8-ounce glasses of water! I just keep it with me all the time. The Diet Pepsi's are still around, my husband still drinks them. But I do not even want one! I am hoping I will get him hooked on this diet by seeing the difference it has made in me.
Good Luck on your week!
Patti B.
Thanks!!

Melanie -- Thank you SO MUCH for responding. I'm beginning to realize that you are all my support group! To make it easier for me, I actually ordered his food and supplement program. It's expensive but worth the time it will save me trying to figure it out. With the extra time I have, I will clean out my cupboards and review recipes so that the following week will be easier. Thanks for yoru advice! Patti R.

Yes it does Tara! Keeping the journel helps too. It was good to look back and see the ups and downs I had all week. It helps for planning next week!
I do not have the opportunity to get on the computer often, mostly on weekends only. But, seeing everyones comments is neat! I have never blogged before. And this is a whole new experience for me.

Doing the UltraSimple Diet
I turned 50 this year and after many years trying (without much success) to release my excess weight, I decided it was time to get serious. I have been overweight most of my life and when I looked at myself in the mirror, I didn't like what I saw. I am about 80 lbs overweight and feel old. Well, when I read about this "diet" I figured it was like the rest but Dr. Hyman's blog convinced me otherwise. So, I purchased the book, sent the other 3 to friends and waited for my copy. I told my girlfriend that she would be getting one and if she wanted to, we could be support partners and do it together. She agreed. I started on the 13th and she started the next day. We have found it very easy to do. I've been making the side dishes and sharing 1/2 of them with her (she's helping with the $) and we make our own meats for the dinners. We both love the recipes in the guide and feel the meals make it enjoyable.
And the good news is: I have released (not "lost" because I don't want to find them again) 6 (SIX) lbs, down 3 1/2 inches in the waist and 1/2 inch in the hips. How exciting! So, I'm doing it for another week. My GF and I decided that we would go week to week. Her long term goal is one month and I hope to go the full 3 months. My husband is still a little skeptical but he is so supportive and has enjoyed the meat. He said I'm less moody with this plan and I must agree, I don't feel so deprived doing this. He took me out last night and I ordered Tilapia and vegs roasted in parchment with a side order of mixed vegs. I didn't know that there would be gr., Yellow, & Red peppers with the fish but I didn't eat them. I must confess, I love peppers and do miss cooking with them but I'm staying committed to the diet. I felt great and didn't overeat (like I used to) and enjoyed my dinner out. It's not hard to follow the basics and stick to them. I too missed most of my baths because of time and took a couple in the morning. I am usually not too hungry between meals so some times I had walnuts or the broth. I do not microwave anything so I have a hotplate at work to warm up my lunches.
I will post my next "release" next Sunday. I love the message board and it has helped me in many ways. Thank you Dr. Hyman for making this possible and to everyone that have shared. I love the support and encouragement. So, today is the start of week 2 and still enjoying this way of eating.
THANK YOU!!
Jules

Jules,
Thanks so much for the inspiration, I really like your term "release" because I too do not want to find the weight I've lost. It's one of my greatest fears about losing weight. I can almost feel defeated before I start, so I need to get rid of the stinking thinking and use the good affirmations and you have given me a good one!
I have completed the 7 days and I lost 3.6 pounds. My abdomen has gone down and is much less bloated. I will stay on the program and start adding other foods back slowly...
Best to all,
Bernie

Ladies:
I am humbled and inspired by all of your postings! Thanks for sharing your experiences here. I am so pleased to see others having success on the program. We are in control of our health and well being, that's for sure.
On our local news, I heard a story of skepticism that a child with ADD could improve his symptoms with dietary changes. The lead was, "Can treating ADD really be as simple as changing what you eat?" Uhhhh, yeah!
I am on Day 6 today. I've only lost two pounds (not unusual for me), but I have lost an inch and a half in my waist!
I'm making another batch of broth right now. I am going have my breakfast shake and head out for a walk before I start the rest of my chores.
Here's wishing you all a healthy, happy day,
Cat

I have to share. My girl friend that is doing the plan with me E-mailed me this morning. She wrote, "I lost exactly 10 lbs. but the thing that is more important to me, is that I feel better, which in turn makes me want to do better. I still lack a little energy but I'm definitely feeling better than when I started. I'm not so sluggish, I'm a little more clear headed and my back's been a little better. I look forward to this week. Your a life saver!!!!" Wow, isn't that great! But the plan is the life saver, not me. I'm so happy for her. I find that it's not Will power, it's the right program and great tasting and healthy food. Thank you again, Dr. H.
