Hello, I have sleep apnea and have been given a cpap machine to use but have not been able to use it because it is impossible to sleep with the mask on. I am tired all the time due to the lack of sleep and am getting concerned with health issues caused by sleep deprivation. Any suggestions? Thank you. Ana

There is a lot of evidence linking sleep apnea to hypothyroid. My suggestion would be to find a functional medicine doc in your area and get a thorough thyroid workup.

I would recommend finding a doctor in your area that practices functional medicine. They will be able to run test to see what is causing your sleep apnea and natural ways to correct this.

How does one find a functional medicine doctor? My husband has sleep apnea. also. I am going to purchase the book by Dr. Hyman and both my hubby and myslef are going to start his program. In addition, we are both taking psychotropic meds for bipolar disorder and I am wondering how they will affect the outcome of the allergy testing methods used in the book. Neither of us can stop taking the meds. Any suggestions? I'm not sure if I should have started another thread or not but since this was marginally related to sleep apnea I thought I would ask here. Go to functionalmedicine.org I search for my Mom yesterday and the only one who came up in her town was a compound pharmacist. I suggested she contact him and ask for referrals.

If you can't use the machine check out an oral device for sleep apnea. You do this through a dentist not a doctor. I could not tolerate the mask either but I love the oral device and my sleep significantly improved. You will need to ask around to find a dentist in your area who does this. Also, there are many types of face masks and you might see about trying different kinds.
