THERE IS A GREAT BAR OUT THERE GLUTEN FREE

WHEAT FREE MILK FREE NO SUGAR ADDED. ITS CASHEW DATE I THINK IN THE ORANGE WRAPPER. ONLY MADE OF TWO INGR. CASHEWS AND DATES NOTHING ELSE.

I ASSUME THIS IS AN OK SNACK. IM CONSTANTLY OUT AND HARDLY EVER HOME DO TO MY CRAZY LIFESTYLE OF HAVING A DAY JOB AND BEING A SINGER. I AM IN CLUBS ALL THE TIME WITH ALCOHOL AND BAD FOODS. I USUALLY TAKE ONE OF THESE AND IT HELPS WHEN ICANT GET REAL FOOD.

I RECCOMMEND YOU TRY THEM---AMAZINGLY GOOD.

I HOPE HOPE THEY ARE ALLOWED.

 I WISH THERE WAS A PIZZA RECIPE I COULD MAKE WITH SOYFLOUR OR SOMETHING. ANYONE KNOW OF ONE?:)

Hi there - Yes Larabars are great!  I found them before I started the program (today is day 5!) and I love them.  They have some amazing flavors (the Pecan Pie is great). I have not been eating them while on USD I really haven't found the need as the food that is specified is doing it for me.  However once I finish I plan to re-stock them in my pantry and in the office for those emergency snack times.

My fitness trainer, whom I seem to quote quite a bit, really likes the Lara Bars and thinks they are some of the best ones out there.

I have made similar bars by processing those same ingredients in the Cuisinart and pressing the mixture into a pan.  Then I can cut it into smaller squares and wrap them, which I like since I don't feel I need the entire bar to be satisfied.

No, I didn't have a recipe.  I just read the ingredients off the label, bought some of same and processed it all.  Then I pressed it into a Pyrex pan sprayed with Pam.  I think I might have baked them gently for a few minutes.

I guess I could do it all again and write proportions down next time if you all are interested.  It's been a while since I did it and I don't exactly remmber what I did.

OK, I will have to get the ingredients and work out a recipe for you all. 

I will try to post it some time this weekend. 

I think one of the best aspects was being able to have a smaller serving size than the purchased bars.  I cut mine into about 1 1/2" squares.

I am putting you all on my Buddy List so I can send you the recipe when I work it out, OK?

The only one I saw mentioned was date/cashew. I would be open to ANY flavor since I have never tasted one of those bars.

Looking forward to the recipe.....  Cherry Pie and the ginger bars are 2 of my favorites.  Also you can find Larabars at Whole Foods and a in bulk (14-16 bars) at Costco  (they have a variety pack)

What flavors are available in the real thing?  I don't know enough about them to answer, but I do like cherry and strawberry and blueberry and banana, and........

Thanks!  I noticed that you had added my name to your buddy list, and now you are on my list.  I am looking forward to tasting your recipe, because I have been wanting to try some of those bars, and I haven't been able to find them around here to put in my "hope chest" of food. (I'm currently on Day 5 of USD--is it bad that I had to look on the checklist for the day to verify that?--seems like the days are starting to run together.) Embarassed  Have you considered posting the recipe to the recipe topic?  If we contribute something, all of our "repertoires" will increase.

 FAUX LARA BARS 

Ingredients:

1 pound or 2 Cups pitted organic Medjool dates

1 1/4Cups pecans}

1 Cups almonds }  toasted 15 minutes @350  Variation:

Instead of pecans substitute 5 oz. dried cherries, but don’t toast them of course.

  Preparation:

Toast nuts on a cookie sheet in 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Place dates almonds and pecans (or cherries) in a food processor and process to desired fineness, some small chunks remaining. I think that doing this while they are still warm might be an advantage. Mixture will form a ball and clean the sides of the container.Spray a small pan with vegetable spray, [I used a Pyrex pan about 7 X 12”]. 

Place the mixture into the sprayed pan and with a piece of aluminum foil to fit pan size press mixture down evenly. (Lara Bars are ½” thick)Remove foil and discard.

Place pan back in still warm oven (turned off) for 10-15 minutes.  Remove, cool and cut into pieces of desired size.  Wrap each piece in Saran Wrap.  Enjoy!  Laughing

This sounds wonderful.:-)  I am about to head to the health food store, so I will try to find the dates and cherries.  I want BOTH kinds of nuts!  I'm a big fan of both pecans and almonds.  Thanks again for doing this and posting it.
