I'm in the preparation week right now, and I'm trying to get together my game-plan. I was wondering if anyone has tried making the UltraBroth in a crock-pot. In theory it seems like it would work. Any thoughts?

Hey FurMommy,
Keep up with the prep week, it makes a huge difference. As far as the crock pot goes, it might be a little too small. You don't realize it from looking at the recipe but there are alot of veggies which fill up the pot. I doubled the recipe and it filled the 16 quart pot almost to the top so I'm affraid the Crock Pot might be a little to small.
Good luck, I hope it all works out for ya.

The crock pot is a good idea, ImaVeryLuckyMan is right that the main recipe is very large and will not fit in the average crock pot. However last year I received one of the larger oval crocks and for average cooking I can never seem to get it full enough, so it might work. You could always reduce the ratio and just make a smaller batch, which isn't a bad idea since many people complain that they do not like the original recipe. Dr Hyman wants us to use at least 4 of the vegetables he listed on page 251 of the UM. I can type the list if needed but generally it was sea plant items, root vegetables, dark greens, onion, celery and shitake mushrooms. Using the crock is a great idea and one I think I'll use.
I am going to redo the USD and plan to make two broths in smaller quantities, because I got very bored with the main recipe and was not crazy about its taste. I also think the two broths will be great for using in cooking. One of the best suggestions I have read is to start like you would with any soup and saute some of your vegetables, especially the onion, celery and garlic. I also am not going to add foods that I know I generally do not like, except maybe a sea plant item (still trying to figure out the benefits vs flavor). I might make one with and one without. If you do not have the UM book yet I would recommend you at least try to find a copy at the library. The next level of this program is really where the focus of the diet began and the added supplements he suggest for specific health issues are very helpful too.
I also just started the UltraMind Solution and am loving it. He basically is just refocusing what has stated in all of his other books, of course with the benefits to the brain and supplement recommendation. However, It seems practice does make perfect, because he is definitely getting his foundational message through more effectively. If your goal is to improve your overall health not just lose weight, please read more than just the USD. He is spot on with his concepts and you will learn so much about your health. Anyway, have fun making your soup and good luck.
I also have one of the large

I also have one of the large oval crock pots, in addition to the regular round one. I guess I'll play it by ear after I go shopping. My regular stock pot isn't a whole lot beigger than wither one. I should probably invest in a larger one before I start. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
