I am 3/4 th of the way through the book and there is no mention of a vegetarian diet.  I am a true vegetarian who won't eat fish, chicken, or anything that ever had a face.  So, I am obviously going to be lacking in my Omega-3s.  Do I have to just eat more flaxseeds?  Why isn't this addressed?

For those who don't eat food with faces:  Omega 3 eggs, walnut oil, flaxseed oil and flax seed are good sources of omega 3.  (Canola oil also has omega 3 - but it isn't a recommended oil on UM)  Remember - in order to supply Omega 3 these oils need to be consumed in pure liquid or supplement form and must not be subjected to heating.  As regards heating and the eggs.... it just occured to me that I buy omega 3 eggs and cook them all the time.... I have no idea if the omega 3 survives...maybe I will start keeping my yolks runny while i research this issue.   HM

I Wondered That Too!

Thankfully many people are now eating conscientiously. More of us know where animal products come from and how they are treated and killed.

I wonder why the book never discusses options for vegans and vegetarians. One would think it would appeal to people who believe in being informed about what we eat. Notably the "Love Your Liver" section which discusses toxins also doesn't address the toxic fear hormones released in animals during transport and the process of slaughter. Even hormone-free meat and fish is not free of those hormones.

The rest of the book seems great and very thorough, but it does entirely ignore an increasingly significant portion of America's population that is susceptible to metabolic problems too! The only reference I could find to vegetarianism is a story about one of his successfully treated patients who was a vegetarian, but his advice was to stop eating junk vegetarian food from vending machines. . . nothing specific to vegetarians there.

P.S. Hemp also contains omega-3 oil.

This is general medical information only. For analysis, diagnosis and prescriptions, consult your doctor or other medical professional.

Many vegetarians get omega 3's through "Fortified" foods that are now available on the market such as soy milk, energy bars, cereals, etc. In addition, you can certainly include some ground flaxseed, hempseed, purslane, walnuts and soy foods which all contribute natural omega 3's.  Many vegetarians take a omega 3 fatty acid supplement made from an algal source (ex. Neuromins) as additional insurance.

You bet - the Ultrametabolism and UltraSimple Diet plans can be easily adapted to a
vegetarian lifestyle and I highly recommend vegetarian eating! As you
mentioned, substituting beans, organic soy foods such as tofu, edamame,
tempeh, and eggs is a great way to make this transition.
