Doing the UltraSimple Diet
I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place... I'm following the Ultrasimple Diet. I'm on Day 6. I have some questions that I'd like answered, please. Does Dr. Hyman have someone answering these questions?
1. I am wondering if instead of the broth, you could use a juicer and make fresh veggie juice. Wouldn't that be healthier because you are not boiling the veggies and losing nutrients? Not to mention that it tastes a whole lot better!
2. Before starting on the USD I was eating Millet & Flax Bread (no yeast, no gluten, no dairy, no preservatives). I've noticed that this Diet doesn't include any bread. Does this mean that any type of bread is bad for you?
3. I was reading the list of "Who Should Not Do This Program" and one of the things was "Anyone with cancer or a terminal illness". Why is this? Seems to me that this approach would be a whole lot healthier than doing chemotherapy or radiation. The long term effects of chemo are numerous and chronic (for some). If we can reverse heart disease and early stage prostate cancer, why can't we reverse other cancers? Seems to me it's worth a try. And if you have a terminal illness, what have you got to lose? This is only my opinion. I'm very interested in the answer.
4. The list of "Who Should Not Do This Program" also has "Children under the age of 18". Is there a program in the works for this age group? With the ever rising obesity rates, diabetes, allergies, acne, etc., I believe kids could really benefit from such a program.
5. I'm having trouble in the stomach area. It feels like I'm bloated but only in the top part where the stomach is and not lower half. I've never had this before. I'm not constipated - have 2-3 bowel movements a day (as usual) but after I'm done I still feel that feeling. Is it just the amount of fiber in the diet that does that or what? As I said, I'm on Day 6 and it has been like that since Day 1. I haven't lost any weight.
Thanks.

This is general medical information only. For analysis, diagnosis and prescriptions, consult your doctor or other medical professional.
1. There is a difference in using a freshly made veggie juice and a veggie broth in the Nutritional profile from calories to vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. Dr Hyman chose to include the broth in the USD, but certainly I have many patients that we integrate fresh veggie juices into their plan at some point in time.
2. While on the USD, Dr Hyman does stress the no bread rule. In UltraMetabolism, we did include both Gluten Free, sprouted grain breads in this program.
3. Dr Hyman chose to stress that certain diagnoses require medical supervision. In my practice, working with cancer patients I coordinate a medical detox program with the patients oncology care team.
4. For Kids - we highly recommend UltraMetabolism as this is a whole foods eating program for life that can be adapted to energy needs of any population group.
5. I would need to know much more about your medical history (especially GI - gastrointestinal history since IBS, etc is epidemic) and this would require a personal nutritional consultation. If you are interested you can call our office at 413-637-9991 as we have a team of nutritionists to support indiviudals following Dr Hymans programs
