Traveling Overseas, what to do?

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Hi All,

Really could use some suggestions. I am doing well so far on the Ultra Simple Diet and plan to continue with some of the recommendations as like many of you, I wish to stay healthy. Now, I plan to travel and stay with my family but they the food they eat is typical meat, potatotes, vegies (nuked in the microwave oven). I think you get the picture? I do not wish to reverse all the good work I have done in detoxing. Any suggestions for traveling and eating out? I do not wish to insult my mom by refusing to eat everything she cooks. Maybe I can just stick to the vegies and chicken and fish.

Hi Suzanna, do you have access to the UM cookbook?  There are so many recipies that are easily adaptable.  Can you offer to make a few of your favorite "recipies" for them and sneak in the healthy food?  Turkey meatloaf (mixed with your favorite allowable salsa) topped with organic catsup.  The turkey chili recipe is good.  You can also do a chicken/chicken sausage cassoulet that no one will suspect is healthy.  You might be surprised on how many people really want to be good!  Mama Foodie

Maybe let mom know how

Maybe let mom know how truly awful some of the food makes you feel and that you suspect you have some allergies. She can't feel offended if you are allergic to something, can she? Bribe her with an offer to help cook if you can add some of your favorites. They may end up liking them too!

Eating out is something I will have to tackle this weekend. I luckily avoided it the most of the time I was on USD. How about grilled fish with fresh ground pepper, plain salad with olive oil (or take your own extra virgin olive oil) and lemon wedges, plain rice and steamed veggies.  That's good for lunch or dinner. Breakfasts... fruit plate in the restaurant but eat your shake before you go? I did that for a business lunch one day. I ate my USD lunch, then went to the restaurant and picked politely at a salad.

Good luck to you!
