Hi Kathie,
I just purchased a weeks worth of the packaged meals and I was concerned about the tea. I have been totally caffiene free for 2 years because of migraines. It was really difficult getting off of the caffiene. Do you think it's best to leave the tea out of the diet? Can I get the same effect from decaffienated tea? I'm just so concerned about getting addicted again.
Thanks,
Pkei

Doing the UltraSimple Diet
Hi Pkei, just a little trick with the green tea. If you are using the fresh leaves, which is the best as opposed to what is in the bags, you can decaffeinate the tea very easily. The trick is that the caffeine is released in the first 10 seconds of the brewing process. So when you pour in your hot water, just pour in enough to cover the tea and let it sit for 10 seconds. Then, discard that water and then pour new water over the tea to brew for the time you need. This way you receive the full benefits of all the antioxidants without any of the caffeine. Enjoy!
I did not know that!

Dear Pkei,
There will be very small amounts of caffeine that remain, so trust your instincts if you feel you are highly sensitive.

How to Decaffeinate Tea (From Pursuit of Tea)
Reducing caffeine content should not be a hindrance to enjoying great tea, and decaffeinating our full leaf teas can be done easily with minimal effect on flavor and enjoyment. Simply steep the tea for 45 seconds in hot water and then pour off the liquid. Then, add hot water and steep in the manner you would normally use to brew a cup of that tea. As up to 80% of the caffeine will be released into the brief infusion of water, the subsequent infusions will have minimal amounts of caffeine. Comparatively little of the flavor or aroma will be sacrificed
