Hello,
I am 64. I have been taking Paxil 10 mg a day for almost 9 years. I started taking it for nervousness when I was entering menopause.
I am now on bio-identical homone replacement and my life is fairly calm. This would be a good time for me to stop taking Paxil. I want to replace Paxil with 5-HTP.
I know how to wean myself off Paxil, but I am not sure when I can start adding the 5-HTP. Do I need to wait until I am completely off the Paxil?
Thank you,

*Disclaimer: I'm not even

Paxil keeps your serotonin level higher, right? Using 5-HTP should raise your level of serotonin. So, it would make sense to ramp down the Paxil while ramping up the 5-HTP to compensate. However, you mentioned that you feel calmer for other reasons now, so maybe you don't even need to boost your serotonin anymore. So maybe just weening off of Paxil would be a good start. See how you feel without it. If you feel you need something, start fresh with some 5-HTP.
Whatever you do with the Paxil or 5-HTP, make changes slowly.
