Hi, I am new to this program and I am a vegan. Does anyone know what I can substiute the chicken and meat dishes with? Can you do this program if you are vegan? I assume I can do a Boca Burger for the meat, but not sure about the chicken
Thanks,

Tofu, legumes, slivered nuts or portabella mushrooms can be used an a meat substitute in many of the recipes. If that doesn't appeal to you just add more veggies!!! Be creative - many cultures use meat to flavor the other ingredients in the meal. If you don't eat meat increase the veggie component (if desired) and use herbs and other seasonings liberally.
They also sell vegetable protein in many different forms in the frozen food section of most stores many of which meet the criteria laid out by Ultrametabolism.
Personally, even if I never ate meat again, I would get plenty of protein on the UM diet through soy milk, nuts, tofu smoothies, etc.
No Boca burgers. He does

No Boca burgers. He does not believe in the soy derivatives that are used in those types of products. Just plain soy.

Hi Cindder,
I'm new too and am also bothered by his lack of suggestions for meat and fish alternatives. I have hypothyroidism and so am supposed to steer clear of soy and avocado. I've been using Quorn for many years which is grown from mycofungi and plan to continue using it until he addresses the issue more thoroughly. You may want to give it a try. In my opinion it tastes a heck of a lot better than Boca and is available in many forms. For Omega 3-6-9 I use Udo's oil which is vegan and made from flax and possibly hemp.
Best to you,
MMM

Hi, thnaks for your reply. I had tried quorn but my husband got violently ill from eating it so I stopped buying it. Apparently, some people can become very ill from eating it. I purchased the meals which are very good but so far I have not lost any weight. I have been on the program for 5 days now. ..:(
Have you had any luck?
No luck yet . . .

Oh My Gosh! I had no idea that Quorn could make people ill-- I'm so sorry to hear that. I guess maybe because its fungus like mushrooms and people can be allergic. I hope your husband recovered quickly and has been able to find much better substitute.
I haven't lost any weight yet, but I've only been doing the program a few days and this is my first "official" day of week 2, week 1 being preparation, quitting caffeine, and easing out processed foods. So far I feel very bloated (olive oil doesn't agree with me) and much hungrier even though I eat snacks yet never used to. Also I have less energy.
I'm hoping that maybe its just an adjustment period. But to tell you the truth, its a little hard to cope with considering I started the program not so much to lose weigh as to physically feel better. I have hypothyroidism and already have enough problems with bloating, hunger, weight gain, and low energy. Ugh.
Did you notice any bloating when you first started? As your ahead of me in the program, I'd be really interested to know how it goes with the weight loss . . . mmm
