I started USD yesterday.
I am on the enhanced version and am pretty proud of the fact I have been keeping all of my supplements straight and eating according to the plan.
I am curious about sweet potatoes.....I am pretty sure I read in the book that they are acceptable. I have eaten them with asparagus and onions for my veggie portion of both lunch and dinner for the two days.
I am feeling so full.....is it really alright to eat the sweet potatoes?
AND...I really hate the ultra broth, it is the only thing I can't stomach.
I had it for morning snack yesterday, but have not had it since.
Can I go without it, or replace it with organic chicken broth or something.
Thanks for the help!

Sweet potatoes are allowed, but since they are a starchy food, I am going to eat them with a drizzle of olive oil or protine so they are absorbed slowly.
About the broth, yuk! However, I tried to incorporate it into soup receipes from the book and I cheated a little with Terra's vegetable chips they served as a cracker, so the broth flavor was more balanced. When I just couldn't stomach it I ate celery and carrot sticks with a dip I made by blending the white bean stew.
I know you spent a lot of time and money making your broth, but you might want to make a new batch and use only the vegetables you like and start it like you would any other soup by sauteing the onion and garlic. There are 4 catagories of vegetables to select from, but I can't find it right now I'll send it when I do.
You can buy an organic vegetable broth, but my concern is that it will have some of the vegetalbes were not suppose to use. Dr Hyman does makes a recommendation for a brand on page 104 in the book.
thank you, mhall!

i have been baking the sweet potato in the microwave, skinning it, dicing and then sauteeing in olive oil in a pan - gives it a nice sweet carmelized flavor, so i guess that is something i was doing correctly!
have you been on the program long?
how do you find it to be?
how succesful have you been?
thanks for your answers.

Sweet potatoes do feel like a cheat don't they. For dinner last week I steamed mine over water that had ginger and salt infused in it. You could really taste the infusion. Today for breakfast, I warmed the leftovers and smashed them slightly, then added almond milk and sprinkled with toasted walnuts. Yum!
To answer your questions, I started on the actual diet last Monday and in one week I lost 7lbs and reduced my score from 112 to 52. I could really feel the effects last night when I was tempted by a favorite desert that I have not had in years. I planned to take two bites, but the first one made me feel so ill I could not finish the second.
This program is presented in such a way that you will see results even if make a few adjustments for your personality and lifestyle. I paid close attention to the foods to avoid, drank the olive oil, took the expanded supplements, and drank the shakes. I only cheated with one cup of coffee a day (down from 2 pots), brown rice pasta (great), Terra's vegetable chips, and teaspoon of dark honey in my shakes.
I will be converting to the Ultra Metabolism plan after my three week on the detox portion of the Ultra Simple Diet. It is more comprehensive in dealing with specific health issues and the food plan has a little more variety. I am in this to lose weight but my health is as important, so this has to be a lifestyle change for me.
