Hello,

Any heath food store should carry it. Ask the cashier to guide you so you are not looking all over the store. Good luck!

Most health food stores carry it, even some GNC stories.  I found it even in a Fred Meyer Super store here in Seattle in their Health/Organic aisle.

Believe me, Eldogstar, there are no lame Q's here.  Some of us have been around here since back when the UltraMetabolism book came out and have had some pretty bewildered moments! I'm just heading out today myself to get some lavendar oil for starting UltraSimple.

I hope the program goes well for you.  I'm loving hearing all these new voices on the site this weekend.  Enjoy!

Joy.

You don't want lavender oil.  You want lavender ESSENTIAL OIL.  There is a HUGE difference.  Lavender oil can be made in a lab with toxic chemicals...and chemicals that are not suitable fot the skin.  Essential Oil is extracted from the plants and they have properties that are healing and do various things depending on what EO you are using.

The lavender oil I found

The lavender oil I found says nothing about oil on the bottle.

I got "lavender flower herbal supplement"

It is lavender flower fluid extract with 12-15% certified organic alcohol.

Is this what I want?

Thanks everyone!

Like ShelleyC said above, this is not what you want. and honestly you can't really buy a great quality lavender essential oil in a grocery store.  Essential oils need to be a pure therapeutic grade to be really effective as in the ultrabath recipe.  The stuff you get in a grocery store qualifies as a perfume grade.  Amrita, foreveryoung, or my favorite is nature's sunshine's these are all therapeutic grade. www.mynsp.com/shari

If someone is having trouble finding lavender oil, you could make sachets and soak in the water. Place a couple tablespoon of lavender flowers in a piece of thin fabric or lace, tie with string and steep like a teabag. This may even be a less expensive option. I would ask your local florist and craft stores if they carry the dried, some grocery stores may have fresh where they stock the herbs.

Dr Hyman also says in the book that you can use other oils. One thing that works great is to use the rind from all those lemons, just peal before you juice or you could add rosemary sprigs to the water. I just read in the May issue of Prevention Magazine that there are some medicinal values to scents, go to www.prevention.com search, for the olfactory factor. There are several different applications, and you might even add some "spice" to you life.

I have had to adjust my diet for awhile for medical treatment, but I love the baths and I feel they help to keep the toxins lower in my body.

When looking for essential oils, you must ensure that the bottle reads "100% essential oil" or "pure essential oil"- b/c even the most reputable companies mix some of the expensive oils with a base oil.  They don't normally do this with lavender essential oil as it is not that expensive, however, they DO mix Rose and Jasmine oil all the time (these are very expensive oils).

Here is an excerpt from a FAQ section about essential oils:

How do I know if an essential oil is an essential oil?

Most reputable aromatherapy companies have labels that define the status of the contents exactly. They should be 100% derived from the named botanical source by steam distillation (or by mechanical pressing if citrus oils). If the label is not clear in this respect, don’t buy it! It should say “pure essential oil’ as opposed to blend or massage oil (pre-diluted already).
Also some ‘so-called essential oils’ are not authentic: china rain, forest, black rose, lily-of-the-valley etc. and are fragrance oils composed of synthetic aroma chemicals.

Suppliers may also be able to supply a Certificate of Authenticity or Certificate of Naturalness (EU), and a Certificate showing the oil is prepared GM-free.

I own over 70 essential oils and I found that the best place to buy it is on-line.  Most of the inventory is fresher than what might have been sitting in a health food store.  I also find that it is less expensive and you have more choices with sizes and the country of origin (one country may have a better supply than others).  Young Living IS very good oils, but then you have to deal with the Multi-level-marketing baloney.  Elizabeth Van Buren is a wonderful brand, but also quite expensive.  My favorite web-site for choices, selection and prices is www.Libertynatural.com   I just tried to go to the website to check the prices, however there was a problem getting there.  So perhaps you can try: www.newdirectionsaromatics.com - also has grea selections & you can read about each choice and learn a lot!  - Enjoy!!!

p.s. sorry if this is overkill - but essential oils are a passion of mine...
