Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Hello all:

I just lost a long post trying to correct the date, but I'll just state here that today is Thurs. March 13, 2008.  I started my preview week for the UltraSimple Diet last Sat., but it morphed into doing it all by Mon.  I have already lost 13 pounds, so I know that I am in the right place.

I am recouperating from a right knee replacement for the 2nd time.  It was a big surgery, and has left me weak and really out of shape.  I am presently working hard at physical therapy, and doing all of the exercises and preparing for this diet uses most of my day.  I am unable to get into and out of our tub, so the detox bath is impossible for me.  I have learned of an alternative method using heated salts, soda and lavendar essences placed on a sheet, and covered by another sheet.  You are to lie on said sheets for about 30 minutes until it cools, and it is supposed to accomplish much the same as the bath.  If someone in the program, or someone who knows of this technique, reads this,  I would truly appreciate your advice.

I do have access to a sauna, and will try to  use it this week.  I have not been able to stick to a plan for the past 2 years, although I did loose 111 pounds 3 years ago.  I have put on 40 of those pounds, and this is the first time I have actually lost cravings and been able to stick to a plan for even a few days.  I am thrilled!!  The weight loss three years ago was due mainly to stress.  This time it is just me---in a semi-normal state---trying to get rid of pain.  Somehow I know this will work.  Thanks for having a place to communicate.!!

Congrats on working at refocusing on what you know can be a really great thing for you. Congrats on keeping 70lbs off over the last 3 years....that is truly an accomplishment especially considering your physical challenges. Congrats on having the patience to write again after losing a long post...been there too many times, myself.

I am on UM so my info source is slightly different from what I can tell. But from what I have seen, it sounds like your sauna option is the best, then the detox baths if you don't have access to a sauna. I don't have any info on the dry bath option, sorry.

Keep plugging along and ride out the "no cravings" gift for every day you have it. Every day in gives you the gift of more information about what your body likes and what it doesn't.

Keep us posted, we're routing for you!

Thanks for the boost!

It is truly gratifying to get a caring response like this one.
Thank you so much Mattericmom for taking the time, and thought to send it.  I am still plugging away on the plan, and my celiac husband has actually joined me.  He is addicted to coffee, but this a.m. is drinking green tea.  He said if his headache appeared, he would have to have a tad of coffee to see him through,  but he cut back a great deal before starting.

I am sure we will go on to UM in the near future.  We leave next Thurs. for a trip to
CA, and all the relatives.  We are staying with my brother, so hopefully his wife will share her kitchen, and not be too offended if we don't eat her scrumptious cooking.  I have let her know about our plan,  but haven't heard back yet about her thoughts.

Hope your UM diet is doing good things for you!!

Food and Traveling

Hi, we recently were traveling and had to spend 4 days in a hotel and so here are a few hints.  We took our blender with us--bought the frozen fruit for the smoothies at a local market and kept it in the frig in the room (surely your relative could spare a little freezer room), the soymilk/rice/almond milks can all be purchased and then opened and refrigerated when you get to your destination.  We cooked a large batch of chicken and brown rice before we left and then put them in the cooler.  Getting veggies was not a problem.  Also, check out and see if there is a Pick-up-Stix restaurant near where you will be staying in California.  They do not use MSG, have brown rice, and were very accommodating about using only limited Seseame Seed oil to stir fry the chicken and veggies.  This was not the case with most of the restaurants we tried.  Even though we made our requests very clear--no wheat, no sugars, no oil (except olive or seseame) we still had reactions after eating.  You will find the hardest thing to find is brown rice.  Happy traveling and welcome to California!!  P.S.  We went to a engagement party last night, the pot-luck food was the biggest test we have ever been through!!  You can survive but I won't tell a lie--it is hard.  We passed up Italian marcapone cheesecake, empanades (sp), handmade candy, and a ton of food wrapped in pastry--aarrggh!!  Oh, also, strongest temptation of our trip--not stealing a french fry from a little girl sitting next to me! Good Luck!  Mama Foodie

Hi Back,  Super ideas.  I will cook up the chicken, and rice,  take lemons and boxed broth.  I can take tea, some veggies, and raw foods in my car cooler.  A thermos of broth and one of green tea would work also.  I'm just out of time now.  Have to be gone the rest of today, tomorrow a.m., and all day Wed.  We can always "mortph" into UM when we get to my brothers.  I will try to notice physical changes,  but don't know if I can be faithful to journaling.  Computer time there is at a premium.  Can always restart when we get back home. (less than 2 weeks away.)

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me in on your "Travel Tricks" .  Congratulations on making it through an engagement party food line.  I haven't been subjected to regular food since I started this,  but Easter at daughter's cabin will be a real test.  I will remember that you made it through.  Your inspired-g-girl68
