At least to begin exercising I plan on doing Water Exercise. at my local Health Club.
I have a routine I do for my Knees and I am blessed to have two near by Water Therapy Pools (warm water like 90 degreesI think they run).
I will go every other day - I tried to go M W and F but found I began to dread M W and F's so I think this will work best- I had this every other day pattern going a year or so ago and It was wonderful - got thrown off by some minor surgery and then just the usual excuses.
I am going to start off with 30 to 45 min and work up to 2 hours
I don't get my hair wet which helps. I stay in the shallow end or in the deep with a noodle float.
I can share specific exercises I do if anyone wants to know.

I'm sure you'll have great success! I've read that exercises done in water like that enable you to work out longer than you would be able to do outside of the water. I wish I had a place like that near me. I don't know of any clubs that offer "aquacizes". Good luck with your routine (but I had to chuckle when you said you started to dread MW&Fs).
How are you doing on the program so far?

I'd be interested in knowing what your "Noodle" exercises are, since I spend most of my pool time floating around on one. I used to try to swim some, but the Noodle is much more fun!
We even take ours with us when we go to the beach since they are so small, lightweight and portable.
Water Aerobics are the BEST

I've been doing Water Aerobics for over a year now. It's the first exercise regime in my adult life that I've kept up with because I enjoy it so much. I'm going to LA Fitness which can be very reasonable in price. You can start at at any level and work your way up. Trying different instructors is also beneficial. I have one that changes her routine quite a bit. We use noodles and special bar bells. Any movement is water resistance, so adding noodles or bar bells just adds to the resistance. An example of a noodle exercise for arms is to tie them in a knot (yes they do bend that much!!) and put each hand in the knotted area, keep your hand flat and arms straight out to your sides and slowly push down on the noodles into the water and resist when they come back up. It's a great shoulder and arm exercise. You can also put the noodles under your feet and push down on them, put them on your ankle, hold your leg to the side and push down into the water - great resistance.
The best part is that I see inches come off and I'm never in any pain after my exercise. And it's a wonderful thing to do after work on a very hot day - watching everyone else sweating and then walking outside into the heat when I'm cool as a cucumber doing my exercises.
One other benefit to the water - immediate stress reduction.
I'm going to start doing other exercise to help in my weight loss but I will never give up the water aerobics.
Good luck Percyfaith!!!
