I'm just finishing wk 3.   Wk 1 - lose 4.6 lbs & 2 inches.  Week 2 gained .6 lbs but lost 1 in.  Wk 3 - no change.  Now I know someone will come in and say, it's not the weight, it's that you are eating the right foods.  Let's be honest here, if it wasn't the weight, we wouldn't all be here.

How is it I stop eating all of the bad foods, eat only the good foods and my body won't give up the fat?  With the way I'm eating & exercising, the fat should be falling off me - but it's not.  I can't and won't, live the rest of my life eating brown rice, vegies, protein shakes and one protein meal of fish or chicken every day.  I am suppose to be able to add foods back in after the detox week, but apparently that isn't working for me.

This is all very discouraging

Losing weight may be a challenge at first. If you are not losing weight and following the recommendations carefully in the plan, then there may be a specific reason that has not been properly diagnosed. One of the underlying keys to UltraMetabolism may be an issue such as thyroid, toxicity or inflammation and further tests as outlined in the book may be necessary.

Sue: I was so glad to read your message. I am struggling as well and have been following the program 90% of the time since before Mother's day. I lost a few inches at first and 4 pounds but can't seem to get beyond that.   I have a thryoid condition so I am suspicious that could be my issue and will confirm in my August dr. apt. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out if I'm missing something - some ingredient that my body needs.  Am I eating enough? Am I getting the right carb protein balance? etc? etc?

I am finding the Ultrasimple too restrictive to be on this long but haven't added foods back in because I still want to lose another 8 pounds.  Just know you are not alone and hopefully someone can give us some answers. Hang in there and I'll do the same until we find an answer - there has to be one out there.

I'm in the same boat.  I

I'm in the same boat.  I haven't been exercising as much as I should, so I HOPE that's my problem.  I have stuck to the program pretty faithfully.  I am hopeful that this week the scale will be nicer.  But I do feel better and have more energy, so I will stick with the program.  I just wish the promised weight loss would come along more quickly.   Hang in there.

Lack of weight loss

Are you drinking all of the water every day?  First thing every day I measure 64 fluid ounces and put my water allotment into a "sun tea" glass jug.  Then, whenever I need water for shakes, brewing the green tea, the hot lemon water, or with meals, I get some out of the jug.  If there is any left by the end of the day, I make sure I drink it.  Yesterday, I drank even more than the 64 oz. and today I finally showed more weight loss on the scale.  I also find that I lose weight better when I sweat.  I was doing a lot of that even before starting on USD, but it didn't seem to make my weight go down very much.  I am also trying to remember to keep a polycarbonate glass of ice water on the edge of the tub when I am doing the UB.  I use glass for other times, but I don't want to take the chance of dropping a "glass" glass into the tub.

Plastic, Glass, Polycarbonate

I noticed that you referred to a polycarbonate "glass".  Would you explain to me what that is?  When I was at Canyon Ranch they gave us a plastic water bottle from Power Bottle USA.  I've used it for 2 years now and usually put filtered (Brita) water in it.  I stopped drinking bottled water altogether.

I went to their website this morning to purchase some more bottles (for the family) and was overwhelmed by the choices - clear, colored, translucent, polycarbonate bottles and tops that included carbon filters.  I want to buy the safest.

Thank you in advance for any knowledge you have on the subject!

Polycarbonate

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Polycarbonate is an unbreakable material that is used for making drinking glasses(and probably other things).  I like it because it usually survives drops onto our hardwood floor in the kitchen.  I presume that it is a type of plastic, which I'm trying to avoid during "the week" of USD, but I make an exception when I am drinking water around the bathtub.  Sounds like it isn't "harmful" if that's what they gave you at Canyon Ranch, though.  I bought a 2 liter water bottle made of Lexan before I heard about the USD, but I haven't used it this week.  That may be a form of polycarbonate.  I think the principle here is that we aren't supposed to use normal plastic, which will "out-gas", during "the week" of de-toxifying.  I noticed several drinking containers at Whole Foods Market and they may have been made of Lexan.  My polycarbonate glassware is see-through, also, just like glass.

Hope this answers your question.

Could it be medicine?

I take a medication that causes me to gain weight so I am already fighting a losing battle I felt. I am on my 5th day and have lost weight, feel great and I noticed if I don't drink all the water then I feel bloated. I don't do the shakes and I don't drink the lemon juice. I felt those were considered optional. Can you put some vegetable broth in the rice to boost the flavor or mix up some of the foods that are allowed? I realize it is easy for me to say this because I haven't been on this as long as you have but hang in there and maybe you should try the ultrametabolism diet to get your metabolism burning to lose the weight?  Linda

I have worked for over 30 years helping people with weight issues and we know this can be incredibly challenging and frustrating too.

I am wondering many things based on your post including your personal stats (age, weight, desired weight, weight history, eating pattern history, body fat%, medical history, etc.) which would help me guide you better.  Thus, I would encourage you to consider working with a nutritionist at home who can help you by evaluating your personal history including reasonable goal setting including not just weight but lifestyle patterns for health.   Or you can set up a phone consultation with one of our nutritionists at the UltraWellness Center  (413-637-9991) who can coach you some more if you desire.

One of my goals as a nutritionist is to help individuals transform their eating patterns and lifestyle and this includes appreciating what true nourishment for the body, soul and mind is... and this goes beyond the scale and tape measure.

Appreciate at least one positive change you have made since you started and savor it today.

I Agree - It Is The Weight

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

This is my 5th day and I have only lost about 4 pounds!  Doctors would not listen to me over the past 10 months when I was gaining 25 pounds because I'm not overweight in their eyes.  But I don't want to wait to become obese just to get their attention.  Before USD I wasn't consuming that many calories and for the first time in my life I was gaining weight without eating much.

So I turned to The UltraSimple Diet hoping for weight loss and improved health.  I feel better, but I still want this last 20 lbs. gone.

Usually, I drink about a gallon of spring water daily.  I am not a smoker or alcohol or soda drinker.  Never consume caffeine (in coffee or tea), don't care much for chocolate and enjoy exercising when I have the energy.

I DON'T GET IT!  IF THIS DIET DOESN'T WORK FOR ME, THEN WHAT WILL!

I'm so discouraged I don't know what to do!

You're kidding, right?

Four pounds in five days is phenomenal success!  Perhaps you had unrealistic expectations when you began?  Why not stay with the program and see what happens in another five days.   I think there are many people on this board who would envy your progress.  Congratulations.

Four pounds when you have 20 to go sounds good to me.  Apparently, if you lose too fast you lose muscle which is not great for a number of reasons one being that muscle helps burn fat.

zero weight or inches

I would be thrilled if I lost 4 lbs. I am on my 5 day and have not lost any weight or inches. I see some comments on here that I missed and I wonder if that is why. I did not know you have to use glass bottles for everything. I store my broth in a tupperware container and my water is plastic bottles of mineral water. I also do not take the ultra bath as it is 100 degrees where I am at and a hot bath does not sound good. I have the air conditioning blasting at night as it is so hot. I also keep forgeting the magnesium caltrate at night. I take the ones at lunch but not before bed. I wonder if this is why I have not lost any weight and keep having to take the herbal laxtive?  I have been following the diet exactly and excersing every other day doing sprints for 30 min.

I find it hard to believe this would cause me to not lose weight and not be regular.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not an expert but I have

I'm not an expert but I have a few thoughts & ideas.  1. Do you think you may be retaining water, due to the high outdoor temp and use of A/C inside?,  2. Don't forget the mag caltrate at night,  3. Aside from sprinting, are you doing any gentle exercising - walking, yoga?  4. Relaxation and journaling are important, too - in order to get the full detox experience,  5. Are you getting too much salt?  6. Regarding water: You should either drink distilled water or use a Brita filter with a container that is either hard plastic or glass.  7. I noticed that you don't have a lot of weight to lose. Maybe it will take longer to "kick in", 8. What was your health score? I believe that the people benefiting the most/quickest from this program are the people who are in a Toxic state.

All food for thought ... maybe the nutritionist will answer your question.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. I do not do the gentle excerise much. I will run to the store now and buy the distilled. I thought I saw in the book mineral. Oh well thanks . I will take your suggestions and see if that helps. I actually need to loose 15 lbs.

I apprectiate the feedback.

Inches!  I find measuring

Currently completed UltraMetabolism week 1 Currently doing UltraMetabolism

FrownInches!  I find measuring myself mildly annoying!  I don't think I lost inches on waist or hips this first week of UM, but I lost 3lbs.

My chapettes (short chaps that go from foot to knee) and riding pants do up more easily.  The second chin that was  growing has gone.  I carry a lot of weight in upper arms and thighs but struggling to measure those areas is just annoying.  Maybe if/when I hit a weight plateau I'll do it but not now.

Best in health to everyone,

Thanks for the Support, BUT. . . the 4 lbs. I lost (thought I lost) in 5 days came back the next day (my 6th day).  I quit the program since I haven't lost any weight and actually kept it off.

For several reasons, I need to lose a total of 25 lbs. and I spent/wasted so much money on this program buying the protein powder and all of the expensive supplements.

I AM SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!

How long did it take to put on that 25 pounds you want to shed?  Five days, ten days, twenty days?  Come on and give it another try - just believe that you can give up the weight in a matter of weeks.  Carefully go over the materials again and find out what you may have missed the first time you tried.  Trying harder the second time around will bring you success!  YOU CAN DO IT ! !  It is such a small fraction of your lifetime that you have to give up.  I'm 55 years old and have wanted to shed 25-30 pounds for over 20 years and THIS TIME I'M GOING TO DO IT!  Best wishes to you - take a leave of absence - just don't quit permanently !

Hi, bluehealer--I totally agree with your post

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Please continue to post on the message boards!  I may need to read something that you post one of these days.  I had a "fit" of discouragement last night, but it went away soon after I ate the meal that I should have eaten sooner.  I often get so busy that I forget to eat......I'm still on "Week 1" of USD(actually Day 15) trying to refine my adherance to the USD before moving on to Week 2.  I have been trying to resolve some swelling problems in my feet, ankles, legs and hands, and after 3 weeks, including prep week, I can finally wear my wedding rings and normal shoes again!  I have also lost 7.25 pounds since beginning prep week, so I'm happy about that.Smile  I also have a little bit of postnasal stuff going on that I want to have behind me before starting to re-introduce food.  I'm already eating mostly-organic raw salads, but nothing past that yet.  I have a history of allergies as a child, so I hope to discover exactly what those are while progressing on the USD.

Did you measure yourself?

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Did you measure yourself?  Sometimes people lose inches but not as much weight as they think they will.

I can understand your frustration.  I need to lose about 25 pounds myself (my goal is a little less ambitious than you ... that would make me 5'3" 120 lbs).  I did lose 6 on USD and then gained most of it back.  In my case, I'm sure it's the wheat and maybe dairy that I reintroduced too early.  All I have to do is look at pasta and I gain weight.  There are many people on this message board who are hoping to lose 50 to 100, even 200 pounds and it must be hard for them to listen to us complaining about 25 pounds.

I believe in Dr. Hyman's programs, for many reasons.  When I read his UltraPrevention book I became a Dr. Hyman/Dr. Liponis fan and even went to Canyon Ranch to be evaluated by the Health and Healing Center.  I am planning on doing the UltraMetabolism soon.  BUT I also have another idea which I got from another post on this website.  I tested my urine for pH and found that I am very acidic.  I ordered Dr. Young's book on pH and will probably buy the SuperGreens and pH drops soon to adjust my body's balance.  I don't like vegetables and avoid them as mush as possible.  The website I've been looking at is Innerlight or you could google pH Miracle.

The only other advice I have is to check in with your doctor in case you have another underlying cause, such as low thyroid, or perhaps an early menopause (that is if you are female - I didn't notice on yourprofile!)

Good luck, whatever you decide to do! .. Patti

I like your idea about the pH testing

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Your idea about the pH testing sounds good--I may have to try that, although I am eating lots of fresh turnip greens and I put lots of organic green stuff into my broth when I made it.  Did I read somewhere(not on the message boards) that acidic urine is helpful in preventing UTI's?  I'm trying to remember about that.

I don't know about UTI's but

vitamin C

I would guess that we will all have acidic urine if we are taking the vitamin C supplements (ascorbic acid.)

I had also read (in the distant past) that acidic urine is a good thing.  But maybe that was by someone who was trying to sell the idea of big vitamin C supplements.

I can relate!

I can relate to your frustration! I am also finishing up the third week of the Ultrametabolism plan. The first two weeks I lost one pound per week but now I have gained back one pound. The first week I followed Dr. Hyman's turbocharge plan published in the July 9th edition of "First" magazine for women. The five women that are featured in the article lost 5-20 lbs. in one week. I adhered to the plan 100% and only lost one pound! I do have an underactive thyroid and found the chapter in the book Ultrametabolism to be very helpful. Is there a chance that you might have an underactive thyroid?

Best wishes!

Fungus lurks in the background often in women....

Has anyone looked into their lack of "weightloss" because of a fungal infection? I know the ONLY "diet" I lose any weight and inches is on an anti-fungal diet. Our horomones a lot of times when out of wack can wreak havoc on our bodies balances. My history includes antibiotics and NSAID's I have lupus with a low thyroid and very low kidney function. I tend to retain water. The only diet I can and will lose weight on is an anti-fungal diet by Doug Kaufmann. What does yeast do when it rises? Well same goes for what it does in our bodies. Most of the time you will need to take some anti-fungals along with the diet to kill off the fungus. In most cases fungus is a systemic problem. If you get his book, and take the test on how fungal you are....and address this problem you will be surprised on how quickly you will lose pounds and inches. It's more affordable then the USD. Here is the link to his web site. http://www.know-the-cause.com/

I hope this helps! Laughing
