I'm in the first week of the program, Day 3 and I've only lost 2 pounds. During the prep week I was very strict with myself and cut out everything - eating only brown rice, fish, luna bars and very little dairy, so technically it's been a week and a half. This week I'm following the program to the letter diet and supplement wise. I should have lost more weight by now - here I am depriving myself and making very little progress.

 Also, I am absolutely sick of brown rice and veggies for lunch - can I substitute a salad with vinegar and oil? I love salad and never tire of it. I'm not sure the yeast in vinegar is an issue.

We are supposed to eat 1/2 cup of the brown rice twice a day.  Have you tried the Rice recipes in the Recipe Section of the USD Companion Guide yet?  When I cooked my first batch of rice, I forgot about those recipes.  I have really enjoyed the rice since starting to use both of those recipes.  I think I like Version #1 a little bit better than #2.  The first time I cooked Version #1, I forgot to include the bay leaf, and that version was even good.  It tastes even better with the bay leaf.

Vinegar is not included in the USD until the re-intro phase, so I use organic lemon juice along with my organic extra virgin olive oil now when I have a salad.  But during Week 1, I ate very few raw vegetables. 

Another thing that I did early on was to make the Tuscan Bean Dish.  I sometimes ate that along with my rice.  And something else I have discovered that tastes very good to me, is to put some hummus(recipe for this is in the USD Guide) over my 1/2 cup of warm rice, then top with a few chopped raw nuts, and stir all of that together, seasoning to taste with iodized sea salt and freshly ground pepper. I often eat a "side" of raw carrots or celery with this, and I really enjoy it.   

Good luck with your weight loss!  Sometimes it takes awhile to happen.  My weight loss the first week was only about 2 pounds or so, but now, I have lost around 9 pounds, after beginning prep week shortly after the 4th of July weekend.  I have had a hard time with weight loss for many years, so I am very pleased with my success this time around.

Thanks so much for the advice. I did break down today and have a salad for lunch, but I put on a homemade lemon/garlic/salt/pepper/olive oil dressing on it. So, I stayed away from the vinegar. If I'm to eat steamed veggetables anyway, why not just have a salad? I'm sure there's some reason why I shouldn't, but I did. Oh well.

I will look at the companion guide more carefully. Last evening, I made salmon with rosemary and ate that with some greens and brown rice. Since I didn't eat brown rice for lunch today, I will double up on my portion this evening.

I don't know if there's a Trader Joe's by you, but I've been loading up on frozen organic vegetables from there. They have a multitude of selections and packets of frozen organic brown rice that take 3 minutes to cook in the microwave. I bring packets of rice and frozen veggies to work and that's what I've been eating for the most part, seasoned with salt and some Ultrabroth.

I sometimes do the "double up" thing with the rice.  I get so busy and feel so good that I often forget to eat lunch!  But I want to be sure to eat the full cup of brown rice per day, plus all of the allowed vegetables. 

I wish we had a Trader Joe's here, but so far, we don't.  I hope to visit one in the future when we visit our daughter, and I plan to load up while I am there, if possible!  I'm looking forward to going there after reading all of everyone's good comments about it. 

Have you tried fresh wild-caught Alaskan salmon yet?  I have been pleasantly surprised by the good taste of it.  I bought some "on sale" about a week ago. 

Something I have discovered while on this program is to not beat myself up over past errors, and just try to do what I have learned the next time, as best I can.

I like the advice of not beating myself up for past errors, because the worst error I can make is to assume that the diet is too hard because of the errors, and use that as a rationalization to quit it.   I have to tell myself to 'keep on keeping on.'

I couldn't resist getting on the scale this morning and to my pleasant surprise, I lost another pound. Slowly but surely...

I'm always in the bathroom, which is annoying, but the benefits outweigh the annoyances.

Yes, Trader Joe's rocks. Their selection and prices when it comes to healthy foods can't be beat. The delicoius Alaskan wild salmon I had the other day was from Trader Joe's - it was frozen, but great!

I sent an e-mail to Trader Joe's asking if they had expansion plans for our area of the world, and the answer they gave was that it would probably be 3 years or so before they come here.  Since they "speak" Hawaiian(aloha, etc.), I presume that the chain must have originated in Hawaii. 

But the good side of the expansion delay is that when we go to our daughter's house to visit, we don't have to pay sales tax on food! 

I can relate to your "bathroom" statement! Smile

I am on day 4 and GAINED 2 pounds. I feel so bloated too. I think too much sodium in the ultrabroth...I'll have to skip the sea salt next time. I don't feel any different than last week, before I began. Very discouraged.
