Hi,

I am in the third week of the USD. So far so good.  I have lost about tens pounds and roughly seven inches.  For the last few days I have been very tired.  Sleeping has been very deep, sort of unusual for me. I am a little disappointed to see my middle area starting to bloat.  Haven't felt like walking because I am tired.  I have been very faithful to the plan.  I don't want to give up.  My family and work colleagues have been very supportive.  I really want it to work this time.  I would like to still lose ten more pounds. Wondering if my monthly cycle is causing the bloat.  I have been very happy to go to the bathroom everyday. Sometimes I think I am afraid to become the thin person on the other side of finishing the program. I wonder sometimes if I should move to Ultrametabolism or stay with this for a few more weeks.

For a couple of days I forgot to take Vitamin C.  When I remembered this morning it made a difference in my energy level.

This is general medical information only. For analysis, diagnosis and prescriptions, consult your doctor or other medical professional.

First of all, savor your success - it is really wonderful!  With that in mind, I must urge patience with the next 10 pounds as weight loss will slow - even .5lb per week is considered a great rate of loss, so please keep up the good work with reasonable goals in mind.

The bloat?  It may be due to your monthly cycle - you would know better than anyone else.  Sounds like it might be since you are going to the bathroom everyday YEAH!!  Daily elimination is so important to our health and weight management.

The anxiety you expressed re: becoming the thin person on the other side...it would be good to journal and write down your thoughts and concerns about this.  It may be helpful to talk to someone you trust about your fears.  A good exercise: write a love letter to your body and then after you have finished it, let your body write back to you.  This can be a very meaningful and powerful exercise.

You can certainly move on to the whole foods DELICIOUS approach we outlined in UltraMetabolism (my personal favorite) - Stick with Phase 1 and let's see how you feel with that.

Kathie,

Having read UM cover to cover I am unfamiliar with "the whole foods DELICIOUS approach we outlined in UltraMetabolism".  I have not seen a plan called DELICIOUS in the UM or is this just your word usage or am I missing some document?  Thanks.

UM and USD are sometimes confusing

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Me too, I've tried to clarify some discrepancies in the diets. In USD, it says not to eat corn and eggs, as they can be allergins. Then it recommends both in other parts of the USD program.
I thought that Phase 1 in UM was the same as USD. We want to follow the diet, so it's better to try to avoid mistakes by being really clear and not contradictory when writing the material.
Please help!Thanks

I don't know if/when she'll

I don't know if/when she'll get back to you on your question.  I'm still waiting for an answer on whether or not we can have GHEE (clarified butter) on USD or on Phase I UM (do you know?).

I suspect she means that Phase I UM is better than the USD since the USD is more limited.  Just my guess, though.

Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that the UM Guide is very informative.  I signed up to start UM even though I won't be starting for awhile.  I want to be totally prepared, so I went ahead, joined and downloaded the guide.  By the way, I did a "find" on the word "delicious" and it wasn't in there, but still I was impressed with the amount of information and how nicely it's organized.  You might want to take a look.

Patti - so sorry if I missed your ghee question - ghee is not allowed on the USD or Phase 1 UM.

Both USD and UM are great - I view USD as a kick start and UM a long-term whole foods (delicious of course) approach to healthy eating.

Appreciate your feedback and comments on all,

Best,

DELICIOUS--Still on "week 1" of USD, transitioning to "week 2"

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

I have found this entire program to be DELICIOUS in that I am learning how to properly season my limited foods so that they taste so good that I feel like I'm eating a gourmet meal.  If my food tastes good, I don't mind so much that I can't eat everything I used to eat.  I am still on Week 1, Day "10" and very much enjoying the allowed food.  I bought 3 big, fat organic ground sirloin patties last night at Whole Foods Market, so that they will be on hand when I finally move up to Week 2 fully.  I have dropped the EVOO and lemon juice in the morning, but I am continuing the hot lemon water and decaffeinated green tea and the teaspoon of ascorbic acid powder, and I am starting to eat raw salads made with allowed ingredients, using organic Romaine lettuce.  I suspect that my lack of better progress the first 7 days was due to my UB water not being hot enough, and also to the fact that my stress level was pretty high until I learned the routine.  This week, I'm more "laid back" and the weight is coming off now! Smile

Good for you

I'm happy to hear about your success this week!  I wish my tastebuds would allow me to enjoy the USD as much as you do.  I am planning to go on the UM in October since I think I can stick with it.  I did the USD for the 7 days (lost 6 and 2 inches in both waist and hips), but couldn't imagine another day on it.  Unfortunately, I am very picky about vegetables, especially GREEN ones (!).

Taste buds on USD

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

I have been off of coffee and tea and other sources of caffeine(except for some chocolate)since sometimes in 1982, so perhaps that makes my taste buds more active.  However, about 2 years ago, I couldn't taste anything at all.  I started to take a multivitamin and mineral supplement, and that has gradually improved.  So maybe as you stay on the enhanced program with the extra supplements, that will also improve for you.  It's not very enjoyable to eat good food when you can't taste it!

Fresh herbs for seasoning while on USD

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

Maybe one of the reasons I am enjoying my food so much is that I bought very small containers of dried herbs, and several fresh herbs, before starting the USD.  I use them as much as possible for seasoning.  Also, I use LOTS of fresh minced garlic.  I have always liked garlic a lot, and now that I'm on the USD, I like it even more.  I was also fortunate to find a tasty brand of organic EVOO that is not as expensive as some of the brands, and that probably contributes to the good flavor of the food.  I have been using small quantities of EVOO for years(not organic) but the taste of that has been not so enjoyable.  So far my favorite organic EVOO is made by Napa Valley Naturals.  Last week, I also bought another brand to try, but have not opened it yet.  I am considering trying to raise some herbs in pots, but that is just on the list at this point.

I'm with you, Carolyn. I

I'm with you, Carolyn. I credit the Preparation Week to weaning me of the need for the food I can't have and access to EVOO and garlic, etc.  I sat with my daughter while she scoffed down a pastry and coffee.  She had checked with me to see if it would be too painful to watch her. I thought not, and it wasn't. I sipped some green tea and then we continued shopping.

In 3 weeks and 2 days, I have dropped 11lbs. I credit this to exercise I love, riding my horse, every second day, and being virtually stress free.  My stress level will not do its autumn increase as I will be working 20minutes from home instead of 1 1/4 hours.Smile

Health to everyone,

Congratulations on the outstanding weight loss! Smile I was extremely surprised last night at my bedtime weighing, when I found that my weight had dropped 3 pounds since the night before!  There wasn't quite that much difference this morning, but it was definitely lower than yesterday morning.

Sounds like your daughter is very considerate if she asked first before eating the pastry and coffee in front of you.

Doing the things I enjoy seems to definitely be helping my weight loss.

Hi Carolyn,

I'm so glad your weight is going in the a good direction.Smile I know what it feels like when it's not.Frown

Compared to her friends, I'm an old mom.  She's decided, after turbulent early teenage years, that I'm a keeper.Smile Also she's a horse person and the less weight on my old boy's, her competiion horse's, back, the better.Smile

Sweating in a bath doesn't interest me...putting it mild.  But riding my horse, cleaning my tack, etc., etc., in hot weather, does the trick.

The fall looms, okay is approaching, and I'm in a new job.  I will keep posting because I know my halicon days will not last.  But I do love my job.Smile

Health to all of us,

Your post

I've never ridden a live horse before, but I did ride a boney mule bareback once.  I have never had the desire to try to ride a live animal again after that experience, which happened during the hot, humid summertime(lots of mule hair all over the inside of my legs!)  When I was a little girl, however, I used to have a "pretend" horse--a long stick that I tied a cord around to use as a bridle.  I used to park it on our screened front porch and I was extremely upset one day when I discovered that it was gone!  My mother didn't realize that she had thrown away my horse--she just thought it was just a STICK!  Smile

I wish I could do some sweating in my UB.  Last night, I somehow managed to get the water a little bit warmer.  I wish they would tell us an appropriate water temperature for that, but I suppose everyone's tolerance for that sort of thing is variable.  I hope tonight will be better on the water temperature.  I plan to try to do some detox "enhancements"(see Chapter 6 in the USD guide for information about this), to see if that will finish my detox process.  It would be nice to be able to eat tomatoes eventually, before the growing season ends.

UB temperature

What I read is that the temperature should be as hot as you can tolerate it which I took to mean, make it hot and wait until it's tolerable to get.  Unfortunately I was in a ton of pain one night (back injury) and go into the bath when it was too hot and my heart started racing and I started getting woozy and instantly got a headache so be careful and don't make the same mistake.  Maybe you can try to make it alot hotter tonight and then test it out slowly with your foot before you get in.  If it's too hot then simply wait until it gets better.  This way you're not starting with a warmer bath that will end up too cool.  Good Luck!  But again be careful not to get in if it is too hot.

Thanks for your good idea

I start the bath at a tolerable temp and then get in (when it's only a few inches deep).  Then, I lower the cold.  Once my body is in, the temp gradually gets hotter & I don't feel it as drastically as if I just hopped into it when it's real hot.  It works for me & hope it helps you too.

I tried both of these ideas

Not yet begun UltraMetabolism Not yet begun UltraMetabolism

Doing the UltraSimple Diet Doing the UltraSimple Diet

I tried both of these suggestions, and now my face is red when I get out of the bath, so there must be some blood circulation going on in my head!  Thanks for posting these.  I also read last night that we can cut the UB short --that it doesn't have to be the full 20 minutes at first.  Since the bath water has been heating up more, I can barely stand to stay in there that long.  Of course, I am also having bath timer problems, but that is another story.  My first one had a "stroke" from getting wet, and I just figured out how to "drive" the replacement after getting out of the tub last night. Smile

Does anyone want to try to lengthen this thread any more to see what will happen?  I do! I want to see how much "skinnier" it can become! Smile

I'll bet this is as skinny as it gets.  Eventually it will just have to repeat itself as to the amount of space available.

I think that's a great funny idea. So I'm trying to make it skinny!  Anyway, I'm officially doing my own cooking this week and it's not going so well. but thank fully I had some back up plans so I'm still at least eating when I"m supoosed and getting enought protein.  I'm doing the ultrabath tonight.  It's been a while.  I have to clean the tub eveytime before I get in.  I have this wierd quirk.  It just needs to be insanely clean but with my back injury I can't really do it my self, or at least eveynight.  I have someone come once a week to help out with household cleaning and chores so it's spick and span right now.  I'm looking forward to it.  I'll try the method of getting in and heating it up while I"m in it.  I"ll let you all know how it goes.

Are you still out there MCS510?

Hope your back is better by now, MCS510.  I haven't been on the message boards as much recently, until this week(at least I don't remember if I have--the days sort of run together right now!), so I hope you are doing well now and are able to be at your computer.

I've been busy trying to preserve food recently.  My husband and I have canned 12 pints of home-grown tomatoes and we are continuing to dehydrate fresh fruit.  Right now, there are 4 trays of CA red grapes in the dehydrator, and more waiting to be dealt with.  And I haven't even gone produce shopping yet this week.  Since I don't buy milk for myself any more, there doesn't seem to be the pressure to go to the store as much, other than to shop the weekly sales.

Please let us hear from you.
