Can't stand the shakes...and this is just day ONE!

Help! I am in such despair! This is just day one...and my body is rejecting the shake I made. I did the UShake version 1, followed the recipe exactly, and it was not great tasting, but it was tolerable...until I got down to the last 1/4 cup of it and realized that all the flax/borage oil must've settled to the bottom and I forced the oiliness of it down and nearly lost it all...but I toughed it out. Then for about 30 minutes I endured one of the worst cases of heartburn I've had in my entire life...my natural ant-acids were no help to it. Finally I gave in and decided it was best to listen to my body and let it do its thing and vomit. (I hate to be so graphic but how else could I explan?) I just don't know if I can carry on like this for 2 weeks much less one day! I think the whole problem is the flax/borage oil and the fact that the book says to drink hot lemon water, then hot green tea...and then there just wasn't much room for the shake. Was a supposed to wait a certain amount of time after drinking the tea??....oh, and I also had to have some water with my supplements before my shake. so maybe I was already water-logged before I had the shake but time was a factor. I have things to do and couldn't wait all day to 'drink' my breakfast. I know this has to be the healthiest diet and that the flax/borage in the shakes is really an important ingredient, but after today I'm afraid I have an aversion to even the thought of flax/borage oil and I'm not sure if I can handle the shakes again! Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but I feel miserable.

I never used the oil in my shakes, because I knew I would have a problem with the flavor. So I used the Omega 3-6-9 capsules, which I took twice a day. I also reduced the flax in the shake and just used some on salads or vegs during the day. These two changes and a drizzle of honey or agave nectar make the shakes very good. My favorite is the soy shake with banana and strawberries or peach and banana.
I find if I drink the tea after the shake, then I don't have the nausea. I also used some of Dr Hymans suggestions for heartburn treatment, especially the licorice tabs, check his blog for more information.
Don't give up, because the health benefit are worth the sacrifices, but you may need to make adjustments, for your well being especially as a SAHM. The main element is to avoid the foods from the list to get the benefit of the detoxification.
Good Luck

YIKES! I can understand how that would be a tad discouraging. I would do just as the last comment suggested and either omit the oil or gradually increase it. Same with Flax. This is a whole new thing for your body and it's going to take some getting used to! I'm on day 53 of Ultrametablism and I feel great! It's not the same program, but I see it as more of a lifetime than a quick fix. Also, take your supplements after your meal or shake! You need something in your stomach so you don't fele the nausea. My skin looks better and I noticed it after a week! I felt less bloated/puffy in 3 days! and one last thing, make sure that shake is allllll mixed as you drink it. Add some ice or frozen fruit to keep it thicker. Don't give up! I have had some setbacks and was dissapointed that I've only lost 8 lbs. My friend just did the math for me and in a year that's 58 lbs! It changed my whole outlook. Go for it and GOOD FOR YOU for taking steps to be healthy!! ~Amy

Being on the UM program for 53 days is great and all of the health benefits make a big difference in how we feel. Your suggestions for healthymom were great most of use have not used this healthy of a diet before.
Losing 8lbs is great and nothing to feel disappointed about, especially since it will be more likely to stay off even if you stray a little on occation, unlike most other diets. I would like to suggest that you try the Ultra Simple Diet if you want a little boost in your weightloss. There are a few differences that may allow for a more dramatic reduction in weight and you will be able to return to what your doing now afterward. Since it eliminates some food you didn't check for sensitivity on the UM an additional week or two will be necessary over the "7 day diet".
I lost 7lbs during the first week and an additional 3lbs in two weeks. For the last two or three week I have strayed, but I lost an additional 2lbs by just keeping up a few changes I incorporated from the plan. I always include protien and fiber for breakfast, try to stay away from dairy and wheat, because of a sensitivity, and have continued eating dark chocolate as a treat, usually.
What ever you do keep it up, because each day of improved health is to be treasured and if we can look better in our bathing suits all the better. Enjoy the first day of summer.

Hi, we (my family and I) have been on the Ultrametabolism plan for 4 months now. Yes, our first shake with the protein powder was a no go. So we switched to the tofu one for a bit and then ended up with the almond butter/frozen fruit/banana/soymilk(unsweetened) or almond milk shakes. They are so delicious we don't want to have anything else! I was really against the oil too and I don't even taste it in this shake. Experiment and find the best combo for you. As far as the hot lemon water--think of it as your morning cup of tea-minus the tea. Yes, it is hard getting all those liquids down in the am--we have kind of fudged and had our tea later in the day. By the way, my son has lost 78 pounds on this program since January. I have only lost 32 but I am feeling so much healthier and don't crave the poisons anymore. I almost forgot--a few tips--get the roasted (and unsalted) almond butter--the raw is a little gritty. Frozen cheeries and strawberries make the shake very sweet. We have never had to add any sweetener. Good luck, Mama Foodie

I love the almond shake too! I used mixed berries, bananas, sometimes apple. I add the borage oil and don't even taste it.
