I know, I know, eating out is not the greatest idea when you are trying to be careful with your food intake.  My work schedule is such that I never know exactly where I will be at any point in my day. I am in and out of my car, home and office all day long. Time is limited and so fixing myself food to take with me seems extremely difficult. (although not impossible;-)

Does anyone have suggestions regarding eating on the run? I find myself eating breakfast and lunch at fast food places. I do order the better things on the menus. Salads, grilled chicken, breakfast burritos and such, and only drink water.

needing to rely on fast food is a problem, indeed!  I have had to do that in some situations too.  Your choosing the better foods is a good thing.  I would also suggest taking a small cooler in your car and put some fruits, nuts and seeds in there for snacks.  Another idea is to actually stop the car somewhere relaxing like a park and eat your fast food, slowly.

Out and About is a problem

I know, I'm out and about often with my two little kids. I'm really sick of McDonalds Asian Chicken Salad!! And you know, the dressing has high fructose corn syrup!

On my best days I pack fruit, nuts, water and a salad for lunch. Maybe someone will post more good ideas!

Do you have access to Chik Fil A. They have a relatively good product and their grilled chicken salads are pretty yummy. They come with a little bit ofveggies and romaine lettuce, sunflower seeds and croutons.  I give the croutons back. lizzie

A lot of grocery stores have pretty good salad bars these days.  Ours has three or four types of olives, artichoke hearts, brocolli, etc.  Try getting that instead of McDonalds.  It doesn't take much time.  (Also, put a hand towel in your car, because that can be messy.)

If you're wondering about how to do the detox phase with an on-the-go job, I'd say you might need to wait until you've got a week's vacation. Even if you have to wait, you can still do the healthiest things available now, with the great suggestions above, and get off of caffeine and "extra sugar," which is what I call sugar that's not still in the fruit, ie candy, pastry, etc.

If you're not in the detox phase, Larabars are really good, if you've grown accustomed to less-sweet foods, and most of the flavors fit the diet. (One has gluten.) I'd go with the cooler in the car. If you stockpile finger-fruit and -veggies, then you'd only need to change out the cold packs each day. If you want to invest that much, and you might if this eating-on-the-run thing is a permanent condition, there are coolers that plug into a cigarette lighter, and some cars come with those lighters in the back because so many people use them for power.

One thing I'm learning is that a meal doesn't have to look like I used to think. A handful of nuts, a small bowl of rice or maybe some rice crackers, an apple, and some raw veggies is a good meal.
