I have problems with depression and anxiety/panic disorder. I am seeing a Chinese Medicine Doctor who is treating me with Chinese herbs. This has been very successful and has made life much more manageable.
When I started the Ultrasimple diet on Sunday May, 13th, 2007, I began taking the morning shake made with rice protein. By Monday afternoon, I had began to feel fatalistic about life and my anxiety increased as well.
I had remembered that, in the recent past, when I had taken powered protein supplements I had had the same reaction. Ah Ha! I thought. It's the protein supplement!
Naturally I stopped using the protein powder and, by Tuesday, I felt much better.
Has anyone else had this problem? What could this mean? Do I have a mechanical problem? Do I have a leak in my gut that is allowing protein molecules to get into my blood?

interesting...

That is really intersting, I would love to know more, because on the first couple days of the program I had panic attacks and was depressed out of no where. It seemed to happen at night mostly. Hmm.

Well I'm glad that I'm not the only one.
Try one of the other shake recipies with out the protein powder supplement and see what happens.
Also, I have a couple of other supplements that you can try that work really well for me:
If your anxiety goes away after you remove the powdered protein supplement from the recipe then you might not need these other supplements.
I'm going to post a question to the Doctor about this and see what he says.
Good Luck!
These are some excellent

These are some excellent supplements, i used to have panic attacks and anxiety and started taking these after hearing about them and can say they do work. As for protein though i've never had any problems with shakes powders etc. I usually order discount vitamins online since it's cheaper then in the stores.

It is certainly an unusual reaction to a protein shake – in fact amino acids in protein usually help with depression. There may be other explanations including changes in your blood sugar, withdrawal from allergic foods. It could also be that you have a unique allergy to something the shake itself. You can get all the protein you need without using protein powder and sticking to the food based shake recipes.

Thank you so much for the wonderful advice! You are right on point as usual; The panic attacks subsided after the first couple of days and I've been eating the rice protien every day, so it was definitely just a reaction to the allergies leaving my system! I didn't think detoxing would affect me that much since follow the Ultrametabolism diet pretty closely. It just amazes me how many toxins can build up in your body just from the occasional "cheating" and our toxic environment! I am going to stay on the Ultrasimple diet for several more weeks to gain all the benefits, but after completing the program I will definitely be re-doing the Ultrasimple week every three months as you suggested to maintain my good health!
Thanks for the warmth and personal touch you give to your supporters! What a rarity to buy a book, join an on-line support group and have the Doctor himself respond to your questions!
