Hi, I am asking for help, advise or if it is possible to see a specialist for my son who is suffering from depression. One day I saw Dr. M. Hyman show on TV, and what he said is exactly what my son is having. He distance himself from all friends, in his room all day,sleep most of the day and up all night. Afraid bandits would break & enter the home. He has a lot of anger.  A couple of years ago he visited a Psychologist and was using ABILIFY tabs and stop. HE is 24 years and has a BSc. in Computer Science. Now he is not even interested in working. What I would like to see is, my son get back in society, get rid of the anger and be able to carry on a conversation again.    Thank you,  Tony.

Hi,

My heart goes out to you and your son.  Depression is rough and very distorting. I had it 8 years ago and it is crippling to say the least. I'm wary about your son's fears about bandits breaking into the house.  That sounds like something more than depression.  He should seek a therapist who knows about depression and can identify what's creating those fears about bandits breaking in. 

Keep in mind that many depressed persons don't want to "hear it" from others. They hate nagging, even from well-intentioned people. Depressed people are frequently locked into rumination, exhaustion, distorted thinking, and emotional paralysis.

If you can get him to read Dr. Hyman's Ultramind Solution especially about food and exercise that can be very helpful.

You might have a larger cat on your hands with the bandit break-in stuff.  Please get him to therapist if he isn't going already.  Depression gets more difficult the longer it goes.

H i, this tony. I got your message, but what I really want is a doctor like today so my son will be able to get immediate help with some sort of medication. I like all the tips,  areaadvice given to me but I really think my needs to see a doctor first, so can someone recommend a good doctor around the Albany or Schenectady area. A doctor who I can see today- like now . Thank you very much, tony.
