I am wondering if it is just to stave off hunger or does it have a more important function? I am not hungry enough to drink it as often as suggested, can I just skip it?

I believe the brith serves at least two functions. First because vegs are alkalines they help balance the ph levels, since most people are to acidic. Secondly it does help keep you full and satisfied.
So I believe it is beneficial and if I remember correctly we are suppose to consume at least two cups a day. I use mine as a soup with rice and vegs for lunch and even poached chicken in it for dinner. Honestly, I was not crazy about it, so for snacks I made sure to eat cut up vegs dipped in hummus and roasted chickpeas or any other vegs leftover from meals, if I just couldn't face the broth.
Also I rarely consumed more than one shake a day either, because I was usually satisfied enough from the other food. Sometimes I did have nut and seeds for the extra protien with my vegs snacks.
I hope this helps

For us it is a cleansing broth to help our bodies de-tox...good stuff...we add a little sea salt and pepper for taste and drink it like tea.

I was a bit confused too, since there were alternative snack recipes provided in the online supplementary materials. If I have hummus and veggies for a snack, do I need to still drink that much broth? (Maybe that's exactly the question you are asking.)

This is general medical information only. For analysis, diagnosis and prescriptions, consult your doctor or other medical professional.
The broth can stave off hunger between meals, helps maintain good hydration and as mentioned is alkaline. If you are feeling too full, you can certainly cut down on the broth.
