Spices that are no nos?

I've tried to get an idea if any spices are not allowed, particularily cinnamon and corriander, though I'm sure there will be more when I get more into this.
Starting week 2 and I'm so sick of brown rice. I've never eaten it daily before, let alone twice a day! Thank goodness for quinoa! But now I'm looking to "spice things up a bit". I've got a fantastic butter "chicken" recipe that I've adapted to the USD, that is vegetarian friendly- but only if cinnamon and corriander are "kosher". Are they?
Also, is there a list of these things in another of Dr. Hyman's books? I would check my UM but I lent it to someone else.
Oh and get ready for an influx of patients from my corner of the world... everyone loves the changes in me and are asking me for books, links, email addresses and how to become patients. :)

Cinnamon is fine- it is in the amaranth recipe. Not sure about corriander- but can't imagine it is not allowed. I think the only big no no for spices is table salt.
Put some salsa in your brown rice. It is delicious. Amaranth is better than quinoa.
Coriander is made from the same plant as cilantro

Dr. Hyman recommends cilantro as one of the seasonings that help detox. In some places cilantro is known as fresh coriander - the leaves of the plant that gives us the coriander seeds. I'd be really surprised if the seeds are not OK.

I looked this up for you in the UM since I couldn't find anything specific in USD. Of course the are several herbs and seasoning that are recommended for their anti-inflamatory properties that should be used whenever possible.
If you know you are sensitive to gluten be very careful of spice blends and in my experience watch for MSG. Basically, avoid all seasoning mixes that are not whole or ground herbs. My personal opinion is to by organic whenever possible, not just because of the pesticides, but because most spices are irrated to prolong shelf life.
Hope that helps.
