Nightshades

As I stated in another entry, I have been doing research for fybromyalgia and learned that nightshade vegs can be a cause of the muscle and joint pain. They also seem to have a mild to moderate level of toxity even contain small amounts of nicotine.

I was curious, since the programs only say to avoid them during the detox phases, what other types of symptoms we should look for when adding them back to our diets or should they be avoided generally all of the time?

This is general medical information only. For analysis, diagnosis and prescriptions, consult your doctor or other medical professional.

Nutrient Deficiencies such as Vitamin D and magnesium along with the possibility of food intolerances certainly play a role in fibromyalgia.  We have found in our practice that gluten, dairy,  eggs and yeast  may be most aggravating.  However, yes, some do find nightshades problematic.

There is also some interesting research on eggplant (nightshade) allergy being more common in females vs. males (as is fibromyalgia...).  Symptoms of food intolerance may include joint or muscle pain, fatigue,  fluid retention, skin rashes, or change in bowel function.

It is important to follow food reintroduction guidelines systematically, so you can pinpoint if you experience an increase in symptoms after your sabbatical from nightshades.
