I am age 65, height: 6'0"; weight: 145; extremely fit and active. Have been on high blood pressure medication (hypertensive) for many years. Recently been diagnosed as border-line type 2 diabetes. Have been following a diet of no meats or fats or diary products and sticking to chicken & fish for one month and am in the process of fasting and will soon get another read on the numbers from my Doc in a few days time. In the meantime, I seem to have rapid weight loss and muscle mass loss. I'm normally about 152-155 lbs but after one month on this diet, I've now gone down to between 142 and 145 and look like a scarecrow. Other than that, feel good except for the worry. Do you think I'm not getting enough calories or protein, etc. on this new diet? I find it a real challenge to try to find a diet that works well with both type2 and cholesterol issues. Can you kindly recommend some food groups I should concentrate on so that I don't lose anymore weight?

Since this is for general information only, I highly recommend that you consult with a qualified nutritionist who can evaluate your diet and personalize recommendations for you. In any event, I would suggest that you review the meal plan and menus in UltraMetabolism which I created as this is a whole foods way of eating that is helpful for both Type 2 Diabetes and cholesterol issues. You can increase the quantity of foods in the plan as desired to meet your healthy weight goals.
