Having major reaction to shakes

I started the UltraMetabolism program last year and quit after a
few days and now I remember why.  Today I started UltraSimple diet
feeling very gung-ho that I could stick it out this time.  I knew that
last time I had a reaction to the shakes.  So to start out on day one I
made the shake using these ingredients:

1/2 cup fresh strawberries

6 oz. water

1 TBSP rice protein powder (half the suggested amount)

1/2 TBSP fiproflax seed (1/4 the suggested amount)

I thought that by decreasing the amount of the the protein and flax
that I would not have a reaction but boy was I WRONG!  About 20 minutes
after consuming the shake I began to have the most horrible case of
acid reflux!  The acid was coming up in my throat making me cough, I had chest pain,
esophogeal spasms, and had to cough up and spit out all acid that came
up...I guess that's what it was.  Somehow the shake managed to stay down.  Hate to sound gross but what I thought was 'acid'  was slimy
and frothy clear stuff.  I have no idea what it was...but finally after
an hour of gagging over the toilet I am almost completely over the sick
spell.  What is that?  Why would the shake cause such a reaction in
me?  I didn't use the flax/borage oil because I ordered it and it
hasn't come in yet.

I need suggestions on what to do about the shakes.  Can I eliminate using the fiproflax and rice protein powder and still be successful on this diet?  Can I also omit the flax/borage oil and instead just take an omega supplement?  I want to try the shakes using almond milk (avoiding soy for now) and almond butter, with the fruit...is that sufficient enough without the flax seed and oil and rice protein?

Thanks for any help ~

That sounds like a pretty violent reaction.  I would first try to pin point what exactly in the shake is causing the problem.  Do you normally react to other food in a similar way?  Maybe you should try each of the ingredients on their own to see if you have a problem before you start up the diet again.

You could try eating a bowl of strawberries on their own on morning and note any reactions.

Then maybe add some flax seed to something normal in your diet like oatmeal (note reaction).

Then, maybe force down some rice protein powder mixed with just water (gross I know).  Any reactions?

Once you nail down what is causing the problem, then you can alter the recipe for your needs.  If you are trying to avoid soy (which I personally recommend) and dairy (whey) there is pea protein powder.  I know some people are sensitive to peas, so be careful.

Take care and lots of luck.
