I have used brown rice pasta for a couple years now and love it.  We are wondering if we can substitute this pasta in place of brown rice for some meals, since the ingredients are brown rice, rice bran and water.

I think that would be a great question for the nutritionist. I think the fact that the brown rice has been ground into flour might increase the glycemic load. If that's the case, it's probably OK at some point but not at the beginning.

I used the brown rice pasta during my first week for two reasons; I have a hard time eating the same thing two days in a row, and my family may abandon ship if I am to ridgid with this diet. Although eating just the brown rice is best, because it is a whole food, these options allow time to test for other allergies to wheat, corn, gluten, and other grains after the first week.

I agree with the glycemic load increase, but larger pastas have a lower index, so use fetucinni instead of spagetti. One of my favorite meals is a veg noodle bowl, which is sauted mixed vegs, noodles, with Braggs liquid aminos.

I also like to use the brown rice hot cereal as grits/polenta, since the  texture is very similiar and hey, I live in the south and we love our grits. These are good for breakfast and are listed as one of our options.

In the UM plan several grains are allowed in phase one like quinoa, amarnath, millet and corn to name a few. However, I do think the elimination process of the USD can help identify allergen that could be causing inflammation.

Hope this gives you a little more information, but you could still get more of a confirmation from the nutritionist.

I seem to remember from the book that all pastas were to be avoided for USD, but I never looked into the reason for it. I'm sure they are ok to add back in after the first week, as with other things. But as stated above, the nutritionist would be your best answer. :)
