Bloating, Gassy and No energy - Is a Colonic the answer?

Hi, I did a week of the UltraSimple Diet and now am in Phase one of UM starting 2nd week today.
I'm having issues though and I'm trying to figure out what my next steps should be from here. My main symptoms are that I have a lot of bloating and gas and movements but they are small and I'm so tired all the time! I'm taking the supplements that are recommended for the constipation and general support. I'm getting frustrated. I'm getting a lot of differing advice:
- get a colonic(I've never had one)
- do an 8 day colon cleanse which involves fasting(I'd prefer not to fast)
- cut soy
- cut nuts
- do a liver cleanse
I'm not sure which way to go...I don't feel energetic and "good" like the book says I'm supposed to feel and I'm tired of my guts not feeling well either. I've never had an issue with soy or nuts before....maybe i just need a good cleaning out?
I've lost weight: I weighed this morning and am down to 143. So that is Good from 151 2 weeks ago. My target is 135.
Thoughts?

Reacting to an increase in fiber?

For a lot of people, going on the UltraSimple Diet or UltraMetabolism is a big increase in fiber. That can cause some problems with gas and bloating while the body adjusts. Also if you're eating more beans, you may be getting gas from that. It might be worth trying Beano to see if that helps.
Are you using the probiotics? I've found those to be very helpful. There's some information in the UltraSimple companion guide that I found helpful in picking out a good product.
Drinking plenty of water and getting some exercise has also been helpful for me.
I hope this didn't add to your confusion. Good luck!

Hey Frances, thanks for the input! I'm taking it day by day and it's so interesting that every day brings something different!
I haven't tried beano and I haven't started the probiotics though I am looking into being able to make those at home myself using keifer grains. They are so expensive in the stores!
I've been drinking tons of water and herbal teas. I also go to the gym a few times a week and then to yoga once or twice a week. Exercising does help...
Does the increased amount of fiber eventually level out to where you don't have bloating or gas? Does your body eventually get used to it or do you have to always take beano and probiotics?
I'm finishing week 3 of the UM Phase one and before that did one week of the UltraSimple. So almost a month's worth under my belt. I have lost 11 lbs and a few notches in the belt.
I do experience such a fluctation in my energy levels, hence my comment day by day. And the bloating and gas are day by day too. Some days are great and some are really low energy and gut issues.
On monday I'm supposed to venture to phase two of UM but I'm considering staying on phase one for awhile longer to see if I can figure out what's going on. But maybe more eggs and other proteins would be helpful versus just beans and tofu (i'm a vegetarian)....thoughts?
thanks!
Don't change

Don't change your lifestyle choice by adding meat, you should not have to make that compromise. My daughter does eat eggs and dairy (not on the plan) as long as they are organic, since they are natural functions and the animals are raised ethically, and she also eats seafood.
Anyway, I definaltly would purchase the probiotics, I bought some at Wal-Mart the other day that also included digestive enzymes and they were less that $10. You could also try a different stool softener or something for a good flush like magnesium citrate. You really should not be having excessive gas and bloating this far into the plan. The probiotics and enzymes should help with that, but honestly, I think extra fiber should be making you go not clogging you up.
You may need to back up a little and try eliminating one item at a time for a few days and see if that helps. Several people have noted that they have been surprised to find an allergy to soy, rice and nuts, so I would start there and try to keep a daily journal to help you keep track.
For me, the gas and bloating was also associated with excessive pain, which turned out to be my gallbladder. You didn't mention pain, but did you take medication for your stomach at all before this plan or can this be related to anything prior to the diet? I did and finally had to go see a doctor. I hope you get to the bottom (pun intended) of this soon. I know you are frustrated, but congrats on the weight loss.
I'm suspicious of cabbage with my bloating

I just ended my 1st 7 days and I GAINED 2 pounds, and I'm gassy and bloated. I'm going to continue because my health score improved from 102 to 49, but I've got to change something!
I've been suspicious of the cabbage in the broth from the beginning. Doesn't cabbage cause gas for a lot of people? I know it has me in the past.
I did cut out nuts 2 - 3 days ago and it may have helped a little, but the jury is still out on that.
Anyone else have trouble with cabbage?
Cabbage, cauliflower,

Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli... all those nice healthy cruciferous veggies hate me... or at least they did. I am starting to be able to tolerate them a bit more but I admit I haven't gone any where near cabbage. That's always been the worst for me.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer beyond Beano or avoidance. I think as my stomach heals I am able to tolerate things better and so eventually I may be able to add back cabbage too.
Broccoli was the first thing I added back. I've always been a bit better with it, then cauliflower- though cooked seems to be better for me than raw with cauliflower. Watch out for bok choy too. That had me hoping I didn't run into any sharp objects or I would be flying around like a balloon that came untied (and probably making much the same noise!)
I just read in the Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruciferous_vegetables that cooking them "for 30 minutes significantly reduces the amount of goitrogens and nitriles. " It sounds like people with thyroid issues might want to make sure to cook these veggies very well.
