Also we just adopted a kid from the neighborhood who has asthma.  What should he do?

If you can get some good quality glucosamine and take it, your hips may feel better.  Are you reading Dr. Hyman's books?  Bacon isn't probably the best thing, it has lots of preservatives and animal fats in it.  His book addresses why to stay away from those things.  Your new son may have a simple food allergy.  He also talks alot about that in his books.  Ultrametabolism is a great book.  If you can try out a detox diet for about a week, see how your son does and how your hips feel, and also your legs.

 Best of luck.

Hello Donald,

What helped me with joint pain is a combination supplement of Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM (available from any health food store or mail order nutritional supplement site) as well as fish oil capsules, both of which are general recommendations for arthritis. I take 1200 mg glucosamine (about 3 average tablets daily) and about 2400 mg of fish oil daily (2 capsules of the brand that I use, but it varies from one brand to another, so check labels). Also make sure that it is a quality brand that derives the fish oil from safe, mercury free sources. I noticed improvements within a week, but for some people it takes up to 3 weeks.

As for your son with asthma. I had it many years ago. What helped me tremendously was getting off dairy products which are highly mucous forming. This may help even if you have pets that your son is allergic to (pet dander is another frequent cause of asthma). I first became aware of my asthma problem after adopting a dog, but getting off dairy products allowed me to not only keep my dog, but adopt two more and throw my inhaler away. If getting off dairy products does not help, consider having your son tested for food sensitivities (not the same as allergies, by the way) since it may be a sensitivity to something else in his diet.

Hope this helps.

In peace...
